Remember when "Rock N Roll" was bad ass?

After decades of "Live Aid" type rock n roll concerts, and benefits, and even those bad ass Rock N Roll band members are now " Sir Ringo", we forgot how bad ass, we thought rock music was. I was listening to a "Golden Oldies" station, and all the tunes were pretty tame. But to us, growing up in that era, Rock was considered "bad ass". But it was 'our' music.

I remember when music (in general) was bad-@$$, unlike the cissy stuff of today that I don't even view as music, but more as irritating racket with zero musicality.

LOL - "Bad Ass." When I was 16, I'd be listening to "Black Sabbath," (one of my favorites). My mom would walk by my room & say,
"Electric Funeral Fire? War Pigs? Witches at Black Masses? Children of the Grave? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?"
And, "Whoever that is, must be on dope." 😂
I'd ROFLOL!!!

I remember when the governor of Indiana banned the playing of "Louie Louie" on the radio because of its " obscene lyrics"
What an idiot, as the majority of so-called leaders are.

"Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go
Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home
Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go
Three nights and days I sail the sea
Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.
Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go
Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!
See Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again
Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go
Let's take it on outta here now
Let's go!"

At school we were judged by which bands we liked. I was a Rolling Stones fan and therefore regarded as a rebel.
There is a lot of talent in rock musicians, which people don't give credit for. The members of Queen and Iron Maiden were all university students and the lyrics of their songs reflect their intelligence.

Every generation has it's favorite style of music. For many years, it was orchestrated classics, then the Big Band era, followed by Rock and Roll, and today it seems to be trending more towards Rap. If this trend continues, real "music" will be a thing of the past in another few decades.

I believe that I was born at the best time, as far as music is concerned. I remember sitting in the back seat of my parents car singing along with "Rock Around the Clock" as it played on the radio. I was 15 when the Beatles came along with "I Want to Hold Your Hand".

I never stuck to just one singer or band. If I liked their music, I was a fan. From the Beatles to the Rolling Stones. From Barbara Streisand to Tony Bennett.

We had a nice station, for a couple of years, called the Breeze at 98.7. Soft rock and oldies. Loved it. Then one day it was gone and replaced by New Alternative.😢🤮

It's a shame people are stuck thinking only the music of their youth is worth giving any attention. There have been, are and will continue to be creative talented and entertaining musicians giving it their all until . . . The End (reference Jim Morrison....

I remember when the governor of Indiana banned the playing of "Louie Louie" on the radio because of its " obscene lyrics".......not that anyone had any idea what those lyrics actually were because they were garbled that they could be singing the Star Spangled Banner for all we knew.

Compare that to some of today's songs, where there's NO doubt of the lyrics.
I read that "Wake up, Little Suzie" was considered obscene.

I think we all continue to feel the music of our youth was 'the best.'☺️
It is okay to be stuck in a time warp: the screeches and howls of Little Richard were ultra cool.

( I wonder what role our parent's abhorrence locked in 'our music.')

I've been driven to Folk and Country, there contain the only lyrics i can understand.
However, 'Golden Oldies,' still have a strong attraction.

There is a difference between risque and filth, Rap is filth.

I enjoy classic country. Never liked any of the British Invasion groups. I enjoy listening to some of the early rock music like The Shirelles, Dion Warwick, The Drifters and others. Some of the hard rock bands were very good and during my college days, I even went to some of their concerts.

In Vietnam, we listened to The Animals, Barry Mann, CCR, The Byrds and others.

Sad and amazing that Rock 'n' Roll got the attention of racists around the globe.

Growing up there was always music playing in our house. My Dad liked the Mills Brothers and Louie Prima, my Mom was a Dean Martin and Perry Como fan. My Brother was 13yrs older than I was. I can't remember his favorite singers. Then came along my sister and me. We loved rock and roll and liked pretty much all the same songs. Growing up Bandstand was in Philly where we lived. We watched it every day and danced danced danced. Then we went to dances every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. I really miss those days.
