I have two bottles on my fridge door that would keep on tipping over on me every time I open or close the door, because they were built upside down. Surely you have seen them: Heinz Ketchup as well as Hellmann's Mayo! This is to ensure that either of them is ready to use without having to shake a couple of times first to make them flow properly! I mean, all this awkwardness re. upside down just to save the time and effort to shake the ketchup or mayo twice? Who is the genius who thought this up? Needless to say I store them "wrong" side up! And, okay, so I have nothing better to do this evening!
 

I think it's a good idea. I just use other bottles and jars of stuff around the Ketchup to hold it in place.
Another item, on my counter, I store upside down when less than half full is the bottle of Nate's Raw & Unfiltered Honey
Don't USUALLY have a tip over problem ;)

I currently have an upside down container of Jelly that I store right side up (is that correct if right side up is really upside down?). :unsure: Anyway, it's one of those squeezable bottles, of course, and it's a PITA, so I've been turning it upside down so the jelly is close to the opening and just taking it out with the knife. I also have a squeezable relish bottle I store with the cap facing up.

And who thought of this...when you can just mix the two whenever you need to? Probably wind up costing less too. Also, it's a silly name IMO.

The refrigerator we have in the kitchen has adjustable shelves. Only stored upside down condiment is ketchup. I noticed ketchup with the feature of storing upside down was inconvenient until I adjusted the shelf by one notch so that the ketchup bottle was lightly wedged. For us having the ketchup ready to pour beats shaking it.
 
I don't care for the plastic bottles with a top that does not let you get out every last drop out. Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, etc. is expensive as it is but not being able to get what is left is frustrating. I have to cut the container with a knife to clean it out.

As far as the ketchup bottle goes, I don't use that brand and the ketchup I use is in a glass bottle.
 
Various of my condiments are like that. I love that theyā€™re immediately squeezable! I just make sure to put enough other containers around them that they stay upright.

My own personal pet peeve is the ziplock seal on many items. You know, the kind where you have to cut or tear it open and then you have to separate the plastic in order to pull the sides apart.

Once I tear that strip off it takes me forever to get the plastic to separate enough that I can then pull the sides apart! Itā€™s infuriating because mostly after you tear or cut the top part off where indicated, the sides are still stuck together! šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

I will variously cut the top again to get closer to the zipper closure, cut a corner diagonally so I can get to the zipper itself, or say screw it and cut it open, then store the stuff in a regular plastic bag!!

Yes they are irritating so just wedge them in with other items but the right way up. For speed when you want to use them.

When my buddies & I were batching it, going camping or hunting we would pool our money for groceries. Once thinking he (one of the buddies) would save a few pennies he bought an off brand of ketchup instead of Heinz. He did live it down but we said under no conditions would we economize on ketchup, it had to be Heinz, only thing that makes our cooking tolerable.

Why not buy standard jars of ketchup and mayo instead of squeeze bottles if they cause you aggravation? The squeeze bottles cost quite a bit more per ounce anyway.
 
There are so many bottles on my fridge door that itā€™s impossible for that bottle of Heinz to fall over. The only time I buy the squeezable Hellmans is when we have company for lunch so I donā€™t have to decant from a big jar to a small dish.

My mother became unable to manage a manual can opener so an electric was a godsend to her. People with arthritis or little strength in their hands are indeed grateful to the inventor of the electric can opener for home use.

@StarSong: My bottles are made of glass and since I am housebound my daughter buys the groceries for me. I was not aware that normal bottles are still available! In any case, the thread was for a bit of fun, I have no quarrel with anyone who likes upside down. I just think it's an absurd innovation since it's so easy to give a bottle a couple of shakes to get the same result! :)

Yeah, they should have gone with Ketchonnaise.

I bought an upside-down bottle of strawberry jam and besides falling down on the shelf, after a few uses you have to squeeze it like you hate it to get jam delivery.

You buy 'em to try 'em, then you're stuck with 'em til they're empty...although, I tossed out my upside-down Smuckers jar when it still had at least 4 sandwiches worth of jam in it. Couldn't deal with it anymore.
 
I am serious about this subject. I am not sure if it could be called an innovation since it took place quite a few years ago and was more of a change. I remember the mouth watering smell of hamburgers grilling in my favourite fast food joint, They tasted so delicious! But then they decided that in order to please impatient customers it might be better to have the patties already fried and ready to pop into the microwave, cutting minutes off the time the patrons had to wait! Despite reassurances by one of the managers (I won't mention the name of the chain) there was a definite difference in the taste. I am willing to live with opinions contrary to mine of anyone who grew up post this change! (y):)
