Robot Vacuum Cleaners $$$$$$

Yesterday I was at Bed Bath Bed and Beyond and saw a display for robot vacuum cleaners. FYI they can sell for as high as $900+ and start at $300+. $900 for a vacuum that lets you off the hook. A butler and maid are cheaper.

Just curious do you have to follow up with corners, etc. or does in get everywhere?

You forget the warranty. One year, six months.? How long and how often doe it get charged? Where does one take it for repair, Silicon Valley?

A friend of mine had a Roomba. He let me try to fix it for him. It wouldn't hold a charge.

Anyway. I fixed it and used it. Works pretty good. It does get stuck though and shuts itself down. You have to reset it.

They are too expensive for my tastes.

These "robo-vacuums" seem like a neat idea...until they break. I also question how well they would clean around the edges/corners, etc., as someone else mentioned. For the price of these, there are better options out there. In years past, it seemed like we always had to buy a new vacuum every 3 or 4 years....then, 15 years ago, we bought a nice Dyson, and it is working just as well today as when we bought it....and, has probably saved us hundreds by outlasting the other brands by several times.

Fmdog, I don't have to charge it. It charges itself. It sits on the charger when not in use.

I don't follow up in corners, but to be perfectly truthful, I'm not that fussy and don't inspect every inch. It looks clean enough for me.

It doesn't work in all situations, though. I don't use it on my enclosed porch, because I have a fern out there that sheds as soon as it gets bumped into. So it might clean up the leaves (or whatever they're called) that have dropped on the floor, but would produce even more mess. For that room, I use my Dustbuster.

Also, the roomas don't go up stairs, so they really are meant for one-floor homes. But I like it a lot for my apartment.

I can't imagine what you could get for the $900 model that's so much better than the $300 model. Good grief, does it figure out your taxes for you?

It amazes (and dumbfounds) me that the robo-vacs can plug themselves into their chargers but electric cars that can drive themselves can not. Seems ass-backwards.

Yes, the newer ones will return to their charging base. Emptying depends on how dirty your floors are; the little dirt cup things don't hold very much.

I tried a Roomba last year but ended up returning it. I didn't think it did a very good job for the money it cost.

Butterfly, I empty mine after each use. No big deal, it has a little drawer that comes out, containing all the fluff, and I just walk it over to the garbage can.

Mine only once ran out of power. It stopped where it was and said, "Charge Roomba." It talks about itself in third person, which I think is cute. "Roomba is stuck," etc.
