Roger Bannister, the First Sub-4 Miler, Has Died

I remember the day he ran that mile and all of us who loved running were in awe when we heard.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2011 and finally succumbed.

RIP, Roger. You ran the great race.

He was doing his draft service, as a doctor, in Arabia. Thoroughly nice bloke.

The two things I always heard about him that had nothing to do with running were that he was a genuinely nice person and he was extremely intelligent.

When I was growing up he was just as much a sports legend as Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson. I doubt that's the case now. RIP

We read a story about Bannister and his quest, when I was a young kid in Elementary School. I was inspired by what I read, and it taught me to always aim high in life, no matter what people said about the impossibilities of reaching a given goal. RIP, Sir.
