Morning folks. My sweet husband fell from the attic yesterday. 9 foot drop

He has a a broken heel bone (calcaneus,) lacerations and bruising. Thankfully there was no trauma to his head, neck, spine or chest, nor any long bone (shin area, thigh) breaks, which apparently is very common in a fall like this. We spent a long afternoon at the Dickson Horizon emergency room where he was evaluated by different medical staff including a trauma team and general orthopedic surgeon.

In the evening he was transferred by ambulance to Nashville Skyline Hospital once it became evident he’d need surgery and would require a foot and ankle orthopedic specialist to do the operation.

I left him around midnight last night. I’ll be heading back shortly. He should be heading into surgery in the next hour.. No information yet how long the surgery will take, apparently that will be determined once they see what they’ll have to do to repair the break..pins etc.

I’ll update again when he’s out of surgery. Please send good mojo, positive vibes, prayers, whatever your thing. He could use them.

Ronni...this is horrible..this is why I don't go up in the loft anymore I'm terrified of falling out of it, one wrong step and you can be toast.........:eek:

Wish Ron well for us... and give him our best regards and wishes for a speedy recovery please...

Fingers and tails are crossed for his speedy recovery.
Do you have family/friends who will be by your side?
Thanks for asking @Twostep.

My two stepdaughters are here with me at the hospital. My daughter and one of my boys is at the house dealing with the dogs and the mess of the fall and the detritus from the paramedics. My kids will all be over later today if I’m home, and will come to the hospital if I’m not. I have a lot of support for which I am exceedingly grateful.

Just for safety, have them check his head next time he goes
in for checkup, please.
He’s been checked thoroughly for head trauma at two different hospitals, two different trauma teams and I’ve lost count of the scans and imaging they did.

The ortho team just got done with his surgery, he has a plate and some pins in his heel to rebuild the bone. I haven’t gotten to see him yet, he’s still in recovery but they said the surgery went well and he did fine with the anesthesia.

We don’t know yet how long a full recovery will take, but at the very least he can’t put any weight on the foot for 8-12 weeks. There will also need to be lots of physical therapy. Gonna be a long haul. But I’m so grateful that it wasn’t far worse as these kind of falls so often are.

So Sorry Ronni, but also lucky too. Better to Leave that stuff to the youngsters. ... :coffee: ...
Sure hope he mends and not future problems. Maybe one of those knee cycles are a good idea in the near future.

The neighbor had a lower leg injury and used one a lot for about 6 months, he is back to jogging again.
He will be able to move things in the basket and will get well faster. Scoot along on the walking paths.
