One of our 3 cats, the most personable one- Onyx, who is about 15 yr.s old have been declining in health, for the past few weeks. She has stopped accepting food or water. Today is the day, I will be taking her to the veterinarian's office to have her put to sleep.

This is most difficult, she has been an exceptionally good friend, any thought of keeping a "stiff upper lip"(or dry eyes) is just wishful thinking.

Today my friend Onyx will be gone from our home, but never forgotten.

Goodbye my friend

Go in peace, Onyx. How fortunate you have been to have a person who has taken such good care of you for so long, and loves you so much that he knows not to try to "keep" you when you say it is time, but to let you go in love.

Peace to you and your other kitties, too, tnthomas.

Rest peacefully beautiful Onyx, you were truly loved and will always have a warm place in a loving heart. Very sorry Thomas, I know the hurt you're feeling as I type though teary eyes....hugs my friend.

Big {{{{{hug}}}}} all the way from Australia to you :) TT..He/ she will always be in your heart .We still have a photo of our silky in a frame in our family room

I'm so sorry, Tn, I know how badly this hurts.... but oh my, you were both so blessed to have each other... and thank you for 'doing the right thing' and not allowing her suffering to go on.... I totally believe Onyx's soul is in agreement and influenced your heart into making that right decision. Love and peace to you, Tn....

I am crying with you Tn. Saying goodbye to those we love hurts so much. What a beautiful black kitty, I love black cats. You can see her soul in Onyx' eyes. Painful as it is, you gave her the last, best, gift of love, freedom from pain. I wish you comfort in your loss, and Onyx, play lovingly in the fields of God, you will surely see your beloved people again. :love_heart:

I was thinking of the Rainbow Bridge, too, fureverywhere. I was picturing Onyx crossing it, bounding off at the high end greeting waiting friends.

I also loved the description Marty Crane gave Roz's daughter Alice of cat heaven, where the streets are paved with fish (on Frasier).

All my sympathy to you TN on the loss of your beloved beautiful Onyx. I've been there too and know how much it hurts.

I remember my hubby's family dog Jackie. It was so hard but she left puddles and then oceans...she had lost control and only I knew. Poor baby but you know you're doing the best really.

Thank all for the kind words and thoughts. The vet and the staff there at the animal clinic are just super, very kind and caring. Onyx is care free now, and without pain or discomfort.

I was talking with my daughter, she said that Onyx is frolicking with her cat Jezzabell, who passed several years ago. I mentioned that they are probably enjoying shrimp cocktails(sounds like a cat drink, eh?). ;) By-the-way, here's Jezzabell- being bearhugged and mauled by my granddaughter:
