Salad Dressings?

For those who enjoy salads, what's you're favorite salad dressing?

I've been through many favs in my life. As a teenager Greek salads in pita pockets were all the rage and we'd drench them in Greek salad dressing which tasted awesome.

In College, the cafeteria was famous for it's house Ranch dressing. So for the duration, I became a Ranch dressing addict.

Then for years my dressing of choice was the sweet but tangy Thousand Island which used to be called Russian Dressing but was renamed during the Cold War.

Presently, I'm stuck on Creamy Caesar dressing. My mother makes the absolute best, bless her, right from scratch too. But when I'm in a hurry and need my dressing straight out of the bottle, Newman's Own Creamy Caesar is my choice. It tastes so good I could eat it with a spoon. :eek:nthego:

I've got to say I'm not keen on Newmans...but like you Chic I've tasted salad dressing in many places in the world..but still my favourite is home made simple honey, mustard and light balsamic vinegar dressing!!

I also make my own because I watch my weight ...,with fresh lemon juice, tiny bit of sugar, little olive oil and mild mustard, ( Not dry mustard) I however only use that dressing on a green salad ..

I find most commercial ones much too sweet, including those served in fancy restaurants, and I normally ask them to serve any side salad without dressing.

The standard olive oil and vinegar is always my fall back position!

I make my own that does not fit into any category. Olive oil, balsamic, tomato paste, pulverized roasted red pepper, garlic, anchovie sauce, fresh basil, oregano, onion, asagio, romano and feta cheese.

I love Paul Newman's dressings, and will have to find the flavor I was hooked on for a time. Now I really like the Garlic-Ranch from Kraft (I think, since it was the only "ranch" type left at Grocery Outlet) and find it delicious. Home-made would be so wonderful Chic, maybe eventually I can try some recipes when I have my own kitchen, Denise

PS Here is the link to the one by PN, yummie;) Oh, Paul is yummie too, LOL!! http://www.newmansown.com/products/newmans-own-parmesan-roasted-garlic-dressing/

droooooooooool, can I come to your house Nona, LOL!!

Anytime Shali and Denise, for in a Italian household.....first question is always, "Are you hungry?" As you are being offered food.
Shali, that is the recipe LOL Proportions to taste.

I want to try yours Nona! Yesterday, my daughter made a dressing for turkey meatballs. I guess I should call it a cold sauce. I asked her if it would be good on a green salad and she said "you can put it on anything you want". I'm going to make it as soon as I get home. 4 ingredients, which I wrote down as I figured I'd get home and remember 3 of them. A little mayo (she said the recipe called for raw eggs but she used mayo instead), olive oil, lemon juice and garlic out of the tube so it's nice and smooth. Stir it good and it's delicious.

I like most dressings, -- sometimes I make a Tahini dressing -- tahini, sunflower oil, honey and a bit of soy sauce and few drops of water, maybe a touch of garlic.

Nona that sounds wonderful. My Nona used to make a simple salad dressing from red wine vinegar, olive oil and oregano. I'd like to try yours. Your family must love it! :love_heart:

Tahini dressing is also good on falafel. OMG. Food orgasm. :love_heart:

…you nut, haha. My favorites are:

Vinaigrette - 1 tsp Dijon Mustard, 1 tsp minced Fresh Carlic, 3 Tbsp Champagne Vinegar, 1/2 Cup Olive Oil, salt and pepper

Greek Salad Dressing - 2 Cloves Minced Garlic, 1 tsp Dried Oregano, 1/2 Dijon Mustard, 1/4 Cup Good Red Wine Vinegar, 1/2 tsp Black Pepper, 1/2 Cup Olive oil

For you folks who like to make your own dressings, you could substitute either hemp seed oil or flax seed oil for the olive oil and that way you're getting some omega 3's which are so critical to health in so many ways.

Good idea Debby. I like how Avocado Oil makes things taste but that's just a healthy fat…not exactly healthy like omega 3's are. I use sunflower oil when cooking because it has a high tolerance level for heat. Olive oil doesn't so as soon as it smokes it turns into a trans fat (i'm sure you knew that…you sound health conscious).

You know Lara, I never use olive oil. I used to but then I heard about the changes from heating and since then, I always use coconut oil if it's going to be heated and the hemp or flax oil for salads. I don't know for sure if coconut oil has any health benefits (I've heard numerous perspectives on that score) but I love the taste and it has a high tolerance for heating so I go with that. And very occasionally if I want an interesting flavour on roasted veggies, I'll use chill peppers in conjunction with sesame oil.

And you're right, I'm pretty health conscious (except for the Oreo cookies in the cupboard right now:p but don't tell eh). I was telling a friend of ours that it's my intention to keel over suddenly and have everyone exclaiming "I can't believe it, she looked so healthy and fit for 85". I intend to be a poster child for the healthiness of a vegan diet combined with regular exercise. None of this 'vegans are so wimpy' nonsense for me!
