No but it sounds interesting.Has anyone seen the TV commercial about the self-driving Tesla car?
I saw it too....Has anyone seen the TV commercial about the self-driving Tesla car?
That show all the things that have gone wrong...almost causing accidents..
Then it states...tell Congress to shut it down...
Can they do that?
Yes it could.A momentary loss of GPS signal could easily cause a major/fatal accident.
However, is this likely to happen more or less often than a live driver falling asleep at the wheel, with similar consequences?
But would it?Adding self driving cars to the equation, without some major "back up" system in place, would only drive these numbers higher.
That's a good one!If you fall asleep while driving, cause an accident, and people are injured or killed you can and will be sued. If you are in a self-driving auto that has a failure that causes an accident where people are injured or killed who gets sued by the injured parties? You as the passenger in the self-driving car or the car manufacturer?
One day hackers will figure out a way to hack into these self-driving cars and cause them to crash.
That said, I saw an article earlier today saying that Tesla broke all profit forecasts. I'm seeing quite a few Tesla cars on the road. The times they are a changin'.
SeniorBen has it right. Every time there are new inventions or devices; hackers are working overtimes to prove that they can hack into all the "fullproofs" security. One day hackers will figure out a way to hack into these self-driving cars and cause them to crash.

Not even close, and before we can the problem of battery charging needs to be solved. I would not consider an electric car right now, even if it were affordable. No way to do the 600+ mile/day road trips I take from time to time.I don't believe we have the infrastructure to successfully require everyone to buy and drive a Tesla yet. Just IMHO
I think you are right, it will just take time. My wife's new Subaru has features now that border on self-driving. It will follow a car, keeping a safe distance, stopping and starting as the car in front does. And it senses lanes and keeps the car in the lane. Its sneaking up on us.There’ll be a time in the not so distant future when all cars produced will be self-driving and affordable.
Not to mention how expensive Teslas are. The average working person couldn't afford to buy one. Scroll down for the prices of various models.I don't believe we have the infrastructure to successfully require everyone to buy and drive a Tesla yet. Just IMHO.
