The family probably should have followed him home on such a rainy night but I guess they felt he could handle the drive....

MARIN CO., Calif. —
The family of a 93-year-old man who went missing last week has been retracing his route home on Highway 101 after having dinner out, in the belief that he, normally a good driver, disappeared while driving home.

I`m hoping for that too. Back in the 80`s,our next door neighbor`s mom and dad went missing on their way home to Redwood City from their regular Sunday brunch trip to Santa Cruz. They were found after 2 weeks-the mom had survived but her husband had died instantly in the crash. They had gone off a cliff in the redwoods and were hidden from view with all the brush. It was very much a miracle that her mom survived after all that time, and given that she was well into her 80`s.

I`m very familiar with the area as we did property inspections there for several months 3 years ago. The restaurant is on the frontage road of Highway 101 and the surrounding area is all very suburban residential-not like it is at all rural or woodsy or anything. Plus, the fact that he lives in a senior facility tells me that he is in town and not far out. I do know though that that frontage road can be very confusing in terms of getting on the freeway (I have first hand experience) which makes me wonder if he accidentally got on the freeway and ended up God knows where.

That is sad, I hope they can find him. :( It sounded like he was indeed capable of making the drive. I suspect there was some kind of foul play, maybe he stopped for gas and somebody overtook him and took of with his car. I hope the authorities are searching for the vehicle also, because if a stranger is driving it could be miles away in another state even. Such a shame.

I'm afraid your right Sea, It been to long.
When I took my father in, I quickly found out that he was drinking and driving while I was at work. I got two calls in two day from two different kind people telling me my father was confused and lost at least 75 and 90 miles from home. I had to just take his keys from him. It was difficult for both of us. Now I watch myself closely for signs.

I am of the opinion no one of that age should be permitted to drive! My mother held a driving licence until 88, although she hadn't been driving safely for at least five years. We begged her doctor to confirm this, especially as the woman had early signs of dementia. In the end her licence was removed, she never forgave us for that, but at least other road users were safe from her, which was the most important thing.

Oh! dear Mrs Robinson that is so scary and I hope that he does get found.. it is sad to think something
might have happened to him.. I truly pray that he is ok ! I also think that driving at night should not be
for elderly as their reflexes and actions are not as quick as you are young..just what the RTA told me about
my husband , although he is just 83 I don`t like him driving at night because he doesn`t see the road too well ..
says he can but I know as have watched him and its a little scary at night with him driving so I dearly hope this
gentleman will be found unhurt.. please keep us informed as how it ends or any news..about his whereabouts..
keeping him in my prayers ..
