Always enjoyed it but not played much in last few years as nobody to play with.

About 6 months ago a lady new to our town started up a Scrabble club - every Thurs evening, no commitment, come when you come. We usually have between 10 - 15 people per night, play different players each week. Range of abilities but we all help beginners.
Meet in a local Cafe,no cost, just buy a coffee or some food to support the Cafe hosting us.

During my late twenties while I suffered 3 years of painful medical issues and could barely eat any food, though could go to work in my career, I occupied my time at home outside of work by playing, absorbed in a type of solo Scrabble I invented.

I memorized many special high value words, including definitions, that are published in advanced Scrabble books, especially all the 2 letter words one can use to place words in adjacent parallel with other words already added.

Since then, have only very occasionally played the standard game during social group occasions. I warn others, they may regret playing with me if I pick up numbers of vowels and then they find out why. Much like video games or card games or TV, I could and would enjoy, long ago decided to spend my leisure time on other pursuits. And am glad.

My son and I discovered that we liked to play it about twenty years ago and now we play a game or two on his days off and have an annual tourney on his vacation. I don't think there's a better game for two people.

Just today, thanks to Senior Forums, I have a new Scrabble word that uses an X!

" "DOX" is a valid word in Scrabble, as it was added to the official Scrabble dictionary, including its conjugated forms, in recent years to reflect its common usage as a verb meaning to publish private information about a person. "

In this era, playing Scrabble online, just like with video games, there are too many others that may cheat just like they did to get through school.

Google AI: do online scrabble players cheat?

Yes, some online Scrabble players do cheat, often by using third-party apps called "word-finders" or "anagrammers" to find the highest-scoring words. Recognizing this behavior involves looking for consistently high scores, unusually fast play, the use of high-value letters and blank tiles in every possible scenario, and the formation of obscure or complex words beyond a player's apparent vocabulary. However, many players are simply skilled, having memorized lists of words, two-letter words, or strategic approaches to the game, so appearing to cheat doesn't always mean actual cheating.

The way I played Scrabble solo differs from what is now called Scrabble Solitaire. Either are excellent tools to practice how to play the game or amuse oneself while alone and also increase one's language skills.

Each game was only 10 turns, thus not till all tiles were exhausted. Each turn, I didn't allow the option to save important tiles like blanks, letter S, or high value tiles. Rather, had to make the highest value word I was able to. I could not consult a dictionary or word source except to verify a word was real and spelled correctly. For any word I played, I had to know something about its meaning or use. That was a useful process for expanding my vocabulary at the same time as I also spent time with Scrabble word list books looking up any words I didn't know that were useful.

I used to love playing Scrabble. But there came a time when I couldn't find in person partners. Then I discovered Words With Friends, which I play on my phone. I tried the Scrabble app, but kept having problems with it. I play WWF off and on all day long. I enjoy playing daily with one of our SF members (we keep a game going) as well as several other people I've never met who have become regulars.
