The mayor signed an early morning executive order declaring the area an unlawful assembly following following police chief Carmen Best's recent statement that: “The CHOP has become lawless and brutal. Four shootings–-two fatal-robberies, assaults, violence, and countless property crimes have occurred in this several block area..."

Following the mayor's early morning order, police moved in at 5 AM. There have been 30+ arrests but no sustained violence. Know the business owners whose patrons were afraid to come into the area are relieved.

Kudos all around for minimal violence.

Of course there is no violence. ANTIFA has moved on. Those left behind have lost their leadership and have become confused as what to do. This is how these things play out. White Supremacists move in, cause havoc, create a backing of local thugs and when the looting and burning is over, they leave and allow those left behind to fend for themselves.

In the cases of the cities we watched the looting and burning happen this summer, ANTIFA had it made. They were smart enough to use the Black Lives Matter as a Trojan horse. By using BLM, they were able to control the local politicians and extort their demands by using racism when in fact, their goal was to make the relationship between the police and black people worse than what it already was. And, it worked.

ANTIFA and White Supremacists are at opposite ends of the spectrum. They both flock to unstable areas to disrupt and sometimes use the other group as a scapegoat for their actions and to engender fear of the other. But they're respectively so far left and so far right that they're equally dangerous. Both work for anarchy, and totalitarianism is the end goal for extremist left or right ideologies.

I heard on the news this morning that two teenagers had been shot. Is that true?

Yes, prior to police moving in. They were reportedly shot by self-appointed "zone security" and the shootings were the primary catalyst for dismantling the zone.

Sort of interesting how readers single out groups that fit their own agenda. ANTIFA(whatever that is?) is mentioned constantly by some forum members. This group evidently reflects a hatred the posters have for a certain class of people.

While reading through the article Annie posted, I noticed the following:

"Sophia Lee, who has lived for four years on 12th Avenue, half a block south of CHOP, said she had mixed feelings about the 24/7 protest.

“I support the message, but I feel like how the city reacted was not great and it has received a lot of negative press nationwide,” Lee said, adding that the city shouldn’t blame recent violence on the demonstrators.

Lee said the protest itself wasn’t a nuisance to her but she noticed it attracted white supremacists and loud Christian evangelists who “were disruptive and competitive. That was one of problems with CHOP: It became a target.”"

Funny that not a single poster, as yet, made comment about the disruptive nature of these interlopers. Could it be that some approve of certain "thugs" but disapprove of others?

I'm a little confused by parts of your post, but as for the last line and its question, I do think protestors approve of ANTIFA much more so than white supremacists. I dislike them equally.

Don't like loud Christian evangelists but don't care as long as they don't break the law.

Really don't like white supremacists of any stripe. Happy to see them in jail for any infraction.

Have utter contempt for Antifa types, especially the barista/poseurs that abound in my city, including the pudgy women I call the "snacktivists." Ditto regarding jail time.

Regard the organized BLM movement as a bunch of Marxist fraudsters who have hoodwinked corporate America and much of the media.

Does that about cover it? And by the way what makes one demonstrator legitimate and another an "interloper?"

To quote the Dude, "That's just your opinion, man."

Another primary catalyst was that demonstrators showed up at the mayor's house at 5 am. She is a former prosecutor and her address is supposed to be kept secret. She really didn't like that and is calling for the city council member who led the protesters there to be censured or fired.
