“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a dif ferent way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.” - John McCain

I didn't always agree with him but I always respected him. I'll be thinking of his family as they grieve for him.

What a beautiful way to live one's life. Thank you for sharing this quote, AB. May the man rest in peace after a life well lived and a job well done.

p.s. That quote has also been attributed to Indigenous American greats Tecumseh, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and Wovoka. Not sure who said it first but it certainly is inspiring.

Maybe Mr. McCain reached across the aisle to find this quote.

I don't understand this post.

HI Butterfly,my previous post was about saying prayers for McCain right after the news broke he was ending medical treatment for his brain cancer. Another poster made a poltical comment about it.I was informed by one of the adminstators my thread had been closed, needless to say I was po'd. Sue

Sen. Mc Cain was well liked by Australians. His life and death have been covered on telly for the last few days. If only the majority of pollies could focus on what is the best for their constituents rather than trying to appease their donors and toe the Party line,

RIP Sen Mc Cain a hero by anyone's standards.

Most Americans would agree with you. Although many disagreed with at least some of his politics, very few felt he was motivated by factors other than love for country and an unwavering plumb line of integrity.
