senate actual numbers?

They took the Senate but they still don't have enough seats to override a presidential veto should they want to repeal Obanacare, for example...

Right...now it's his (the president's) turn to slam the door on every move they make. I think everyone knew 2016 is the year we settle this political gridlock thing. Two more years of muddling stagnation should produce the right atmosphere for a decisive shift of perception by the voting public. Either that, or we all start voting with our feet by moving to states that reflect our particular values. That might be the only way this bitterly confrontational society can function.

The idea of the Republicans getting in at the next presidential election is horrific imo. What happens in the US has a knock on effect in the rest of the world. Obama has been a good President, so much better than the idiot Bush!

Agree!

I'm very disappointed that the horror of a governor in Michigan has been re-elected. My nephew was working hard for the Democratic opponent.

Well, I certainly hope that all those who voted in this plague have tons of money! Because we can kiss our Medicare and Social Security goodbye.. Republicans have hated those programs since they were instituted. Medicare will now be voucherized... meaning you will get a check from the government depending on your means and you will have to negotiate coverage with Private insurance companies. You will also be means tested for your Social Security. If you have any money saved, you will get less in SS benefits. So hey!! Congrats Republicans... You will get what you deserve.

I'm always baffled why anyone except the rich would vote for republicans! Why are poor people voting for them?! And why do they act like SS is like welfare for the elderly? We paid into it with each and every paycheck!

Racism has overridden common sense. The average Republican voter is completely snowed by the propaganda FOX news spews.. and believe the attack ads the Koch brothers pay for. NOW they will see how GOOD the GOP is going to be for them.. lol!!

I agree with you all....if nothing else this will bring the Republican agenda to the front for all to see.

It is a very sad day for our country when this election was ran on and voted for by hate.

Hope they take their blinders off and see!

I did get a good sense of why some people vote the way they do when I lived in East TN. I worked alongside many evangelicals who always voted republican. They totally ignored issues and based everything on the candidates/party: pro-choice, claiming to be good christians, homophobic.

I was living in Uganda during the 2008 election and sent in my vote for Obama. I was able to watch the returns on tv and when it was announced that Obama won I cried and it wasn't just because he won, but because McCain and Palin lost. The idea of her being a heartbeat away from the presidency was the stuff of nightmares.

Ugandans were thrilled with his win!! When I went to the post office to mail in my vote the clerk asked me if I voted for Obama. When I told him yes his smile was huge. He said when he wins to come back to the post office and we'd have a party!

That's exactly what their campaign was based on - hate.

Well, they have 2 years to PROVE they can govern and be good for the average person.. hahahahahahahahahahahaha.. But to put this in perspective, the playing field was not level. The Dems had to defend seats in Red states. The whole thing changes in 2016, when the GOP will have to defend 23 .... count 'em.. 23 seats.. most in states won by Obama. SOOOOOOOO..... the GOP better show how well they can govern and get things done.. that will mean compromising... a word they up to now don't seem to understand. If all they do is "Investigate" and "Impeach".... we can count on all 3 branches going blue in 2 years.

I really don't get involved with arguing politics. I go to the polls and as an Independent, I vote for my choice and usually I end up splitting the ticket. It appears on open, the market likes the idea of the Republicans winning the Senate. I am not going to give my thoughts as to why that is because that would just start an argument or debate and what do any of us gain from that?

All I really care about is what I am having for dinner tonight and oh, yeah, what my stock portfolio is doing.

I like my stock portfolio also... AND I fully expect the Republican led House and Senate to make me richer than I already am. Those that voted against their own interests will have to deal with the consequences.

Honestly, going away from the political side, I am more concerned with what the Fed is up to and I'll leave it at that.
