Senior moments......things we noticed as we get older.

I looked all over before i started this thread, so i wasn't repeating anything.

I've noticed i tend to put more lights on when doing something, the kitchen for example, when cooking, baking etc.
Recently, i've been somewhat chilled at night, i have just been using a Vellux blanket, nice and light, has been warm up till now.....so i added another Vellux one over top......still light in weight.....that warms me up now.
During the seasons which require the furnace heat.....the few chilly days we had, i've set the thermostat at 24, usually have it at 23.
During the air conditioning season.....this year starting.....have set it less cool.

Because some of us have become a bit hard of hearing, there is a tendency for young folk to talk a bit too loud and over-pronounce their words.
This happened to me the other day in a shop. The young fella was over-exagerating his speech to me, so I blurted out, "I may be old and a bit deaf, but I'm not stupid you silly pillock."
He was stunned, so I gave him a big smile. 😊

I have to make sure the floor is clear so I don't fall over something.
I keep plates and bowls on the counter so I don't have to reach up into a cupboard or stand on a stool to get one (I am short).
Immediately write appointments, due dates for bills, what chores are done each day, etc. on the calendar or I will forget them. Sometimes I have gone to do something to finally remember I did it yesterday!

I have gotten shorter by 1.5". Now I have to use a step stool to reach the 2nd and 3rd shelves of the upper cabinets.

I am usually cold, and deal with this by wearing more clothing and/or using more blankets. My daughter is always hot. We play thermostat tag.

I have been cold, except for one year when heating oil was really cheap, since early 1989. This is what happens when a person from the South moves to the Freezing North. During winter, I always wish I could sew myself into 5 layers of super warm clothing, including super warm longjohns. But living with my daughter, I have to say this is the first time I've ever shivered with cold *inside* the house.

For me the two biggest things are :

1) That active/physical endeavors whether practical projects or something fun (like hiking) have to planned and paced, because i take longer to recuperate from exertion. Some 15 yrs into accepting that my body has changed a good bit, i still habe trouble stopping any activity before my body screams "Stop now!"

2) I'm physically sensitive to things that never bothered me when younger. I have to get situated just so on the sofa, and in bed anywhere clothes trapped between body and furniture, seams and wrinkles bother me something awful. When i was younger the only thing remotely like that was i always had to remove labels/tags at back of neck because they annoyed me no end. Now anything not smooth against skin does.

you know what's weird? when they measure me at the dr. i'm still 5'5" but, i've been having trouble reaching things i used to be able to reach no problem.

i've noticed that when i get off work i'm walking lots slower now. hurtin a lot.

I've noticed that they're making clothes smaller these days. The waists are stingy in size and they fit much tighter around the hips. I mean.....there's no other explanation, is there? I used to wear a 10. Now I can't get my left leg in a 10. Why are they making 10's so small?

There's something wrong with the laundry detergent, too. Even if I wash with cold water and dry on low heat, my clothes keep shrinking.

And the scales...oh, the scales. Defective, all of them. Poor workmanship.. hmmmmmph.

I've also noticed that everyone is so much younger these days, and they mumble so. The print in books and newspapers has gotten so small.

Furniture manufacturers are making the chairs and sofas ever so much harder to get out of. And for some reason, my knees are further away than the used to be.

I've stopped getting on the scales at home........Lies, I tell you Iies !

I am at least 1 and a half inches shorter than I used to be and afraid to measure me now because the last time was 20 years ago.

Then there's those tags they put in clothes, they itch!

I always bruised easily but now the bruises look like blood blisters!

I make every effort to avoid sitting on the floor........too hard to get up again.

My feet got bigger (tho google says it is just the ligaments and stuff loosening up) and now the socks and shoes I stocked up on when on sale are a waste of money. I feel pretty pathetic that a tight sock makes me miserable, when I was younger my toes knew how to stand up to those and poke right through!

I’ve noticed a loss or change in my short term memory.

That causes some insecurity and anxiety as I have to check and recheck various things to make sure that they have been done.

It seems the less I have to think about and do the harder it becomes.

Ditto....

a bit of all of the above...

also, I've been experiencing some age-onset sensory input disorder - lights too bright, too loud irritating noises - almost makes me want to go and bang my head against the wall like an autistic toddler :(

it's also been a tad difficult to admit that youth is no longer on my side - double :(:(

I've noticed more pain in feet and legs, I also lost some height, I have a fungus on one of my fingernails, I have a bad itch on the back of my head, I have arthritis if the spine, I had to stop driving a car, I cannot get to church anymore, most of my family members and friends have already died, I desperately want to go back from 86 to 26.

Benefits of growing old: have not been able to stand on a scale for years, vertigo-require stable floor, don't even know where scales is, don't care
What is that dumb game of big dots where people have to get in awkward positions?
be the first at your senior citizens meeting to say,
'Okay, new game, today we play: Lets fall down,
can also be played in the privacy of your home if your shy...

What SmoothSea said, twice over -adding the problem of putting on socks (almost impossible) underwear (let's play fall down)
the jokes of being old are real, not funny,, now, pay attention to ads on TV for 'new miracle cream for pain...
Sounds like it may be time for a sock aid.

They come in a variety of styles and prices.

It should keep you busy until it’s time for lunch.😊

Good luck!

I've had to put on heavier winter parka and or more clothes when going to shovel that white crap, and going out with the guys.
I kept wearing the warmer parka longer into the spring.
Once we've finally got some sun, to warm up the world, felt so nice......but as soon as i would be in shade.....was looking for a jacket.
One thing that hasn't changed......my feet never get cold......hot feet since forever.
