SF disappears, for a bit.

The only other forum I was on was AARP left after 5 yrs, sooooo boring
Another ARPposter had mentioned SF decided to give it a try, what a difference
I was warmly welcomed when I joined in Aug 2017.
As I have said on previous posts,I like that members are from around the world, get a different perspective on any topic at hand.We can agree to disagree but not be mean spirited about it
I would be upset if SF ever disappeared,I've met some wonderful people here Sue

Of the 4 Seniors sites I'm registered with, this is the forum I visit every day. That is not to say there aren't nice friendly folk at the others - just that there is little activity, and one tends to be very cliquish. I belong to 2 other health-related sites that I joined about 20 yrs. ago, and have made a few deep friendships with people I chat with from time to time over the phone. It's great we have free long-distance within North America.

I was beginning to get concerned when I couldn't connect to SF .. and I couldn't get a response as to whether the site was down.

I have to say that the site I visited had a bunch of former SF posters on it, and many were people I had seriously disliked, in here. Predictably, they were still spewing the same offensive nonsense they had, in here, previously. The topics on that site were also not of the same quality they are in here. I was glad to get off that site, quickly.
... and don't come back. :poop:

I joined up in October of 2016. Not long before retiring. Like most here, I was looking for a forum for us older folks.
Over the years, I have belonged to many forums. A few no longer exist. But all served a purpose. Some were general forums for all ages. A few pet specific. This is the only one I visit now. A couple months back I revisited a forum I left about the time I joined here.
I found it was not the same. I probably would have left anyway, even if I had not come here. Not sure I would join another Senior forum now..unless Matrix closed up shop here.
I am happy with topics here Yes there has been disagreeing among folks here, but they are usually settled. Just glad we got rid of politics.
I may go through periods where I do not post, but I do check in daily

I only joined SF a short while ago, I’m not much of a poster but I really enjoy reading everyones post and some excellent advice that is given. It takes me awhile to get comfortable & open up but I love the site n enjoy so many of the people, I’m glad we didn’t lose it! 😊

This site has become a pleasant habit for me to visit. Many caring, kind individuals. I must say I think it has evolved to being even better than when I first joined. People now are more open, tolerant, and caring. So now I am loving it here! I think we all appreciate the admins for all they do..for our enjoyment! I would miss it a lot if it closed but don't think I'd die from it. Closing is something many forums have done and if it happened I'd go on but would be sad none the less.
Same here @Ruthanne I will move on if the site closed down..but I would sure miss the wonderful people on the site. Especially @Gary O' He Keeps me laughing. We share a GREAT sense of humor...its in our blood Gary O'.

I'm pretty sure that happens when the moderator(s) slacken. Like allowing politics, verbally abusive posters, posters that talk smut, posters that could be kids taunting the posters. I was in one a long time ago and quit because you could not have a decent and mature conversation in it.

I was on another over 50s forum where the Mods were absolutely hopeless, they allowed racist /homophobic abuse, and other forums of unpleasant bigotry.

SF...my only go to place. It’s like a diary for me. I can boost about my family, post silly pictures all day, vent my concerns and sad times.

As some of you know, I am quite old, 82, and still love a good joke and funny pictures. In other words, I’m enjoying life and have an outlet to show that.

Thank you SF for making my days.
Pappy
Pappy...82 and still enjoying life..PRICELESS!!!!
That is one of the reason I am letting go of unnecessary stress.. My Golden years, are my BEST. I am sure there will be more tribulations and challenges..but unnecessary stress has to GO!!!
