Shootout in north Queensland - 6 dead.

In a nutshell, four police went to a property after a missing person report. They were ambushed in the driveway. Two, one male and one female, were shot and then executed at short range as they lay on the ground. The other two received minor wounds and escaped. A neighbour who heard the shooting was also shot and killed.

The shooters fled into the bush causing a warning to locals to stay inside. More police were involved in hunting for the killers and all three were killed by the police.

The injured police were treated in hospital. One is a probationary constable just months out of the police academy.

There is a lot the police aren't talking about yet. I'll fill in details as they come available.

this is ringing bells with me , didn't this just happen in the USA a short time ago ?

No idea about that @hollydolly.

One of the men was reported missing by family members in NSW and the police went to his brother's property to investigate. Who the shooters were or what motivated them to murder the police has not been disclosed. The three who were finally shot by police were two men and one woman. They wore camo gear and were heavily armed according to an early report.

It absolutely sounds like an Identical Incident that happened a few weeks ago , Warri...

One of the men killed by police is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance with a long white beard. The other two people killed were his brother and the brother's wife. Hard to imagine what they were up to in that remote area.

Thanks for posting this, Warrigal. Please keep us updated.

(Trying to ignore all the this-happened-here, this-happened-there comments to try to get what happened in the original incident.)

Edited: Sorry; I must be crabby today.

Happens a couple times of year where the suspect wait for police. Sometimes it's seems like an attempt at suicide by cop.

It's says property but looks rural which drug dealers could be growing and/or producing something illegal.

Australia have the death penalty for murder?

RIP those killed

Peace

The death penalty was abolished a long time ago.
It's moot in this case because the murderers are no longer alive.

Terrible tragedy for the officers, neighbors, their families and colleagues. Unlike here in the U.S., this kind of thing is the exception, not the norm in your country, right Warrigal?

This report surprises me, why? I don't know, I never
imagined a shoot-out of this nature in Australia, yet
like all countries it has its nutcases, just like the rest
of the World.

R.I.P. the police, who were only doing their job and
the neighbour, who should have stayed out of it.

As for the others who died, ******************!

Mike.

You are correct, Diva. That is why this is so shocking. I'm even more shocked to learn that the man who was reported as missing is a former primary school principal. The brother and his wife were also former educators.

The police woman who survived hid in the undergrowth and the shooters attempted to smoke her out by setting fire to the grass. She was using her phone to call for help and to send messages to her family. She did not know whether she was going to be shot or burned alive. The neighbour came to see that was happening when he saw the flames. He didn't see his killer as he was shot in the back.

When police reinforcements arrived they came under heavy fire when they tried to retrieve the bodies of their slain colleagues. This is when the killers were shot to death.

This was a senseless and callous attack. Their online presence is being examined in an attempt to understand the motivation.

Holly: I can’t recall any large scale police ambush attacks this year, however, we have lost close to 300 cops this year due to cops being targeted. Anytime anyone is killed in an ambush, it’s considered a tragedy. The good news is that these types of crimes are not all that hard to solve for different reasons.

Most of the police ambush killings this year have been 1,2 or 3 cops. That’s all I can remember thinking about it. We have had a few weeks where multiple cops were killed. I think one week this year, we had 13 cop killings. Maybe that’s what you are recalling.
