Shopping for aids for seniors to get up from the floor

Yes, i think that it's likely time for one of those devices for her.
I know nothing at all about the watches.
Perhaps they work better than the buttons.

My husband's med alert button is better than nothing, but disappointed me.
The much advertised (and extra cost)
fall sensor is extremely undependable.
However if he falls and is still able to press the button himself, then they answer.

It needs to be on the charger (and not on him) for at least several hours, daily. He would be safer if it could charge more quickly than that.
Kaila...what company did you go with for your husband's med alert button? My husband tried a couple but they didn't work in our walk-in basement. I was contemplating getting something for myself but something with a long range that works. I think the devices are wonderful for a person's safety as long as they work as advertised.

I had trouble years ago with my legs giving out. First thing I purchased was a couple of wheelchairs, one for each floor of the house.

I eventually improved once I started taking insulin. But I still have the wheel chairs and I'm glad that I do in preparation for later in life should I have trouble again. I can get around the house in a wheelchair if I have to. A wheelchair doubles as a rolling walker if you're out in public.

I also have a walker in the house left from when my wife was alive and used one. The walker acts as a balancing support for putting on slip on shoes and slippers.

The walker can also prevent falls.

I installed a removable handle on the side of the bathtub:

This is a good short video for someone like me who can't put weight on her knees, complete with indifferent dog. Yes I've fallen letting the dog out, too. I've scooted on my rear from the back door to the sofa to do this.

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife's fall, Nathan! Is she still doing okay? I know it would be a comfort to have one of these devices in the house for her, but like others have said, if she falls and it's not near her, it wouldn't do any good. I think it's important to have the bathtub safety items installed asap... that would help to prevent a potential nasty fall in at area at least.

I have 1 exactly like that one, too,
@hollydolly

It's a different one that I've recently seen. and was referring to in my post above.

I think there are lots of them with same names, atm, from what I've noticed.

The one i am now eyeing had a 3 inch thick, and about 10 or 12 inch deep cushion. Thicker and wider than the one you pictured.

And flat larger handles.
that sounds like a much better one, because those regular garden kneelers are very narrow //do you have a link to the new type ?

When we had the master BR shower completely redone, the tile contractor(yes, a real craftsman!) mounted the shower grab bar with stainless steel screws directly into the wall studs beneath the tile. Also applied water proof epoxy around the screws. I mounted another grab bar just outside the shower.

Edit: I just noticed the perspective of the photo. :unsure:

Other ideas....
You've likely covered these bases, Nathan, but i will note them on this thread, just in case useful for you or for any reader.... .

Examine the spots where she has fallen, for possible risk factors in those specific locations in your home. Take a close look, and see if you can find what might have made a fall more likely there. To mitigate anything like an uneven floor,etc.

Also consider the lighting during the times of day when there is less light.
Night lights of various types, can reduce risks of falls. Particularly in specific spots in the home, or are in use at a particular time of day.

We have numerous small lights now, which make both of us safer.
Aside from motion actived.
Ours stay in the outlets so we don't need to remember to upkeep them. Not even need to be switch on and off.

Believe it or not;
I have no idea how to move a link to this site..... :unsure: :oops: :rolleyes:o_O

:giggle::giggle::giggle::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

It is on Walmart.com
and is called:

Gardeners Knee Rest

It has a green frame+handles, and a thick large black cushion.

I also think I'd seen it on Amazon.
But I'm even less familiar with that site. ☺️🤣

I have that one had it for years now.... it folds flat, but it;s small and it's very lightweight...and only really useful in the garden tbh

By the way, Holly,
And to Nathan and anyone who is interested;

A while back, my husband actually did use the type of garden kneeler in your picture, indoors, and it definitely did help him to clean spots on the floor, and to get himself back up to stand.

And they are more commonly sold, so much easier to find. Might help some people.
Does not take up space either, so might fit alongside Nathan's back door, or against a hallway wall.

But I'm now considering getting that other larger, sturdier one,I described in above posts.

Nathan maybe just see about getting her to do some strengthening exercises. They might not be as difficult as doing more cardio based stuff.
