I agree. It is entirely understandable for girls to want to be acknowledge for their dawning physical maturity. It doesn’t make them anyone’s Jezabel and it doesn’t mean they are in heat. My wife describes going to an undergarment store with friends to be fired for a bra. Great expectations!

Short skirts go in and out of fashion…and for teenagers it is all about fitting in…not sticking out. At my high school I desperately wanted to fit in…so when I left the house I pinned up my skirt so short it was thumb length on my thighs. No harm done….

Someone probably already said this, but....Pants. All student uniforms should be only pants, shirt, and blazer or sweater (jumper, for the UK).

The only exception should be if the uniform is kilts, which have very specific dimensions.

That's a distinction with little discernible difference.

Which is exactly my point! The kids may think it's just cool to dress that way or that's just the style, but regardless of what they think, how they dress speaks much louder.

Perhaps if girls went back to wearing gymslips of a standard length, that would solve the problem? (For those who don't know, gymslips were like a pinafore dress worn over a blouse.)

I wore mini skirts so short I wore hot pants under them. I changed into them when I arrived at school, changed back into my regular clothes before I caught the bus home. No harm done. I graduated with honours, and no boys were driven mad by the sight of my legs.

we had a choice at our school. Pinafores or skirts.. tended to wear the pinafore in winter ..

They're called "jumpers" in the US and were very popular in the 50s & 60s. Less so later on. These days they're mostly worn by younger girls.

Jumpers are the name in the UK for sweaters... ( altho' we do use the word sweater but more often, jumper )

Now if kilt wearing boys were to go to school in 'mini-kilts', I suspect that a few eye-brows would be raised, or perhaps even a few kilts.

Yup. That'd be called a jumper on this side of the Atlantic. More often they look like this though. Higher sleeve openings rather than down to the waist.
