Short Term vs. Long Term Memory

I was chilling out back with my mind wandering and I remembered "OD515". That was the license plate number of my first motorcycle. I had no reason to recall that but there it was. I still have it hanging in the garage along with other old plates. Got any meaningless memories of the mundane?

This is the problem that first besets Alzheimer sufferers, the loss of short term memory...

They can recall things that happened many years ago.. but not 5 minutes ago... which is why very often, they don't recognise their own children or spouse..

I can remember my phone number from when I was a kid. TE 4-4880. And the address: 641 S. Euclid Ave.

I don't know my husband's cell phone number. Just click on his pic!

Although losing our short term memory can be a little embarrasing or even dangerous, we just need to be a little more mindful, unless we are getting ill. But, I absolutely love the long term memory recall of things that I have not recalled "forever". There was a lot more life jammed into this 70 years than I ever imagined. :)

I remember our phone number from when I was a child. I have NO idea what my own mobile number is ( I do know my landline number) ... I can't ever remember it.. I don't ring my own cellphone ..

On our old party line, we had a wooden wall phone that you had to hand crank to reach our neighbors or the operator. Our number was one long and two short rings. But everyone listened to each other’s conversations anyway. Mrs. Crumb, our next door neighbor, was the worst.
