Should Jeb Bush stick to speaking English rather than Spanish?

Bush is obviously courting the Hispanic vote when he speaks in Spanish at times, but Trump believes that he should speak only in English. Is this a valid criticism or just populist nonsense?
 

If he was running as a liberal Democrat it would probably be acceptable, but not as a conservative Republican...

Oh stop.... Stupid remark Ralphy.. Although I'd much rather be a "Liberal Democrat" than a xenophobe.. What is wrong with someone speaking to Spanish speaking people in Spanish? And what is wrong with someone being Bilingual.. I wish I was
 
Stupid? It seems that it is on the minds of a lot of people, so you just insulted a vast number of the population besides me. An apology would be nice but probably not likely...

Yes... and people like that deserve to be insulted.. because stupid is as stupid does... no apology.. Get over it.. People will speak the language they are comfortable speaking.. No one says you cannot speak YOUR language.. and since the USA has NO official language.. you are welcome to learn Spanish also.. Comprende? I find it hard to believe you feel this way Ralphy... Why?
 
I didn't say that I agreed but the question has been raised. Further, though, a common language is a unifying factor for a country and I think that English is that language and be utilized wherever and whenever possible. Understand?
 
What is particularly sad it that many Americans refuse to learn another language.. Is that laziness... stupidity.... stubbornness, snobbiness? Don't know... Yet they EXPECT and even DEMAND that everyone else learn to speak English. Most people in Europe speak several languages, or at least are proficient enough to make themselves understood. Why not here? We share half our hemisphere with Spanish Speaking countries.. What's the deal? As I said.. the USA has no official language... Verstehst du?
 
I come from a bilingual country, my French is rusty from lack of use, but would return if I were immersed in a French speaking environment. Being able to converse in another language has many obvious benefits, and absolutely no drawbacks that I can see that are not ego related, n'est pas?
 
Typical "ugly American" response Ralphy... and I know you are only stirring the pot.. BUT the thing is.. A person doesn't even have to be fluent in another language to make themselves understood and to understand another person. People use combinations of words.. gestures and even some "Charades" to communicate. You, I am sure have spoken to people who have very bad English skills and yet understood them. We all have. Most people really appreciate when someone tries to use their language.. it's a nice thing. I see absolutely nothing wrong with JEB speaking in Spanish and really don't understand the objection.
 
Guess you just don't get it. I hope you have a valid birth certificate just in case the Feds come looking...
 
Where I live there are all these Spanish speaking folks living. So many that it is becoming quite unfortunate when trying to talk to others. While sitting in a doctors office I was trying to say hello to other patients. I only got Spanish in return. Sure killed an attempt to be friendly in Arizona.

Prior when in northern Colorado I was also involved at work with Spanish speaking people. As they talked among themselves it was Spanish but when in mixed crowds it was English. Did fine. Now down here in my previous residence my neighbor was bilingual and spoke English well and as well with Spanish. His job was to stand in court and translate back and forth between judges and on trial as clarity for the courts.

Far too many years are wasted on this no legal language attitude. How did the courts in China Town of San Francisco manage? All countries should have a legal language for official uses but allow folks to speak as we do for personal usage.

While working in a state run visitors station in Colorado we spoke English, period. One day we had a group come in from Canada. Some in the crowd would only speak French. We could not speak with them but there were some of the crowd that spoke as translators.

When traveling in Canada we were way out west in their biggest mall and we stopped into a cafe. Most were speaking English but many were also speaking French. Thankfully Canada only accepted two as legal language. Otherwise it would be much more of a mess than it is.
 
Politicians have been using other languages to get votes for years, nothing new there. Rumor is, his wife can not read English, picture that in the White House.

Seems hard to believe at all. Folks in that high level of communications are quite likely to understand English in text or conversations. At least that is what I believe.
 
Excuse me Bob. Canadians do not consider Canada to be a mess at all. It is highly insulting to the Canadians on this site for you to suggest that it is. I would never make such a rude and inaccurate comment about America.

Oh for gods sake, loosen up! Hearing two languages at once is a mess. It is everywhere, not just in Canada.
 
Wasn't there a secessionist movement in French Quebec some years ago? So much for all that bilingual stuff for them...
 
I think Jeb is doing a fine thing campaigning in both languages. He's aware of where the ears are.....and there enough of them here to make a difference.

Why yes... in fact he provided his LONG FORM... quite a while back.. I thought most people except the fringiest of the fringe were satisfied... BUT let's face it.. Some wouldn't believe it even if there were a video of him emerging from the birth canal with Mount Kilauea in the background and Pele hovering overhead..
