Shoulder Surgery possibly in my future. Again

About 5 years ago, I tore my rotator cuff and bicep muscle on the right side. They went in, added screws and did the best they could fixing it. Then 2 years ago, I did the same to my left side. Had surgery right after Christmas, only to have it "not take", and they did surgery again right before Easter.

Now, I think I have somehow tore up the right shoulder again. Possibly moving furniture? I have an appt with my orthopedic doc on the 10th. The past procedure seems to be, get a shot in the joint to see if it helps, a month later I can get scans done, followed by surgery.

Has anyone else had a lot of trouble with your shoulder(s)? If so, did you have surgery and was it fixed for good? I've been told that shoulder surgery is harder to 'come back from' than any other. And with 3 down, I'm dreading the thought of another.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder BlueDragonfly, mine are still okay but I agree with Rose, take it easy on the lifting for sure! I overdo a lot with yard work and furniture moving for cleaning, hubby offers to help but I usually just do it if I can, so far have been lucky.

Blue,DragonflyI'm sorry you are having trouble with your shoulders.
When I was working,I also experienced some pain in my shoulders partly due with my job as a pharm tech.As a tall person,5 11 when I was delivering narcotics to the nursing units ,I would either bend or hunch over to get the items in the drawers/bins which were down low. After 27yrs it took a toll on my body
I've been retired 7 yrs, been to PT twice for my right shoulder, have avoided surgery.I still to do the daily exercises twice/day ,know my shoulder will never be 100% again.I deal with it Sue

I don't move heavy anything. I have injured shoulders from gym pullies but have stayed away from the knife on the these. About 10 yrs ago I had Prolotherapy injections in my right shoulder and got 3 yrs of pain free shoulder. I could use this work again but I live with these shoulders at 80 and living with messed up hip replacement is enough for me.

I avoid surgery as much as possible and you could look into Prolotherapy as there are providers all over the U.S. and a lot of the world. Find some in your area and at least get a consult from some.

Thank you for the responses. I really hope to avoid another surgery. As long as I can get a handle on the pain, it isn't an issue. I don't mind babying it, or limited range of motion.

You know what you have now but after a surgery ??????

A friend did a shoulder surgery a couple yrs ago and she did a hard rehab for about a year, everytime I talked to her she was doing PT and icing and and and...

Then she went for a total shoulder replacement and she isn't perfect but doesn't work as hard as she did with the first surgery. She has other health issues, so which is worse she has to pick and choose.

If you can live with it and do PT and take joint supplements and whatever or if you can check out Proltherapy, do that. Surgery is so invasive. And the outcomes?????

And this is surgeon's bread and butter, so sure they want to do them.

I'm having pain in my hips now and shoulders sometimes too.
I tried a exercise on youtube that helped but stopped it last month so I need to get back to it.
Check out every possible alternative to surgery. I have had surgery in the past too when I had to so hope whatever you do works out great.

Thank you. I'm going to put off surgery for as long as I can. It's just too hard to recover from.

I tore the rotator cuff in my right shoulder about 5 years ago. My doctor sent me to a sports medicine specialist who gave me a cortisone shot, then set me up with a series of exercises to do on my home gym that, over a couple of months allowed the cuff to heal nicely. I had to substantially limit my outdoor physical activity, and be very careful how I lifted anything, but following the specialists exercises allowed things to heal nicely....without surgery, or any extended use of drugs. Now, years later, I have had no further problems...just remind myself that I'm no longer young, and need to be cautious about how I do things. If there is Any alternative to surgery, etc., I highly recommend trying it first, and keep things like surgery in mind as a Last resort.
