Does anyone belong to a Silent Book Club Chapter? (https://silentbook.club/) I haven't been able to join since the nearest chapter was a 2 hour drive away and now it appears that that one folded (due to Covid maybe?) and now the nearest chapter is 4 hours away.

If you don't have time to check out the website, in short, the chapters before Covid (and hopefully soon again) would meet at a nice cocktail lounge or coffee bar, for the first approx. 30 min. each member taking a turn to discuss the current book they're reading or wanting to read or have read, then the members would all remain and read their own books in companionable silence. Kind of right up my alley: one of the things I don't like about regular face-to-face book clubs is if you really don't like the book you've been assigned and in addition to having to slog through a book you dislike, then, depending on how strict your club is, having to defend why you didn't like it.

There's one near me. The idea of going somewhere and just sitting around reading doesn't really appeal to me, but a discussion group might be interesting.

Anyone know of an online group where everyone reads the same book and then discusses it?

I used to belong to the American Literature & American History Book clubs that we had on the NY Times forums many years ago. Sadly both became inactive. We sure had lively discussions and it was great fun.

Perhaps we can have a book club here where the discussion can alternate between a current book one month and a classic novel the next.
