Yes!
agreedI liked S&G back in the day. Still have most of their vinyl. I never thought this particular song was among their better ones.![]()
I never heard it, they only played the big popular hit songs on the radio here, and I never owned that album. It's okay, I generally like Simon and Garfunkel, lots of excellent songs together. This song I don't care for at all.I have known this song which was a Big hit since I was a teen.. I'm told on the entetainment thread.. that they ''guarantee'' most Americans will never heard of it.. Is this true..?.. I can hardly believe it if it is...
Whereas here... that song was played on the radio as much as Bridge over troubled water.. or Cecilia, or The Boxer.. all from the same album of ocurseI never heard it, they only played the big popular hit songs on the radio here, and I never owned that album. It's okay, I generally like Simon and Garfunkel, lots of excellent songs together. This song I don't care for at all.
have you seen or listened to Art lately ?.. he's kinda going ''old'' and needy towards his son..IMO..Two nice Jewish boys from Queens NY
However it is a song on their best selling album of all time, ''Bridge over troubled water'' ...so I have no clue how people who say they were or are S&G fans could not know this songI had completely forgotten that song. It's not one that you heard frequently.
In 1967, I bought a bunch of LPs at a London flea market and brought them home to my them home to my boyfriend, who was a musician. One was clearly a demo album, in a poorly-printed thin cardboard sleeve in black-and-white, with the corner clipped off. It had a picture of a guy on it and it just said "Paul". On the back was just a list of the songs.
We played it and liked it but weren't wowed by it. Some time later, I heard a song on the radio and thought "that sounds familiar". It was one of the songs on the album.
Yep, I had a Paul Simon demo album, the kind that they sent out to radio stations back then. When the boyfriend and I broke up, he kept the albums I had brought him. I often wonder how much that album would be worth today.....maybe a lot, maybe not, but it sure would have been a collector's item. Wish I had it.
Thanks for sharing that, I think it's very heartwarming. His bond with his son is a wonderful reward in his old age, happy he's still alive to embrace the love and music.have you seen or listened to Art lately ?.. he's kinda going ''old'' and needy towards his son..IMO..
Precisely..my point exactly....Anyone who owns the Bridge Over Troubled Water album should know it.
It’s on there.
Fairly certain I’ve heard it get radio play here.
I would call it one of their better known songs.
Both from Queens ?Two nice Jewish boys from Queens NY
I knew it...thanks for that SS... I just couldn't understand how a Huge hit like this could only have been a big Hit in the UK..given that S&G are American.. a Hugely popular duo.. AND the song was on their best selling Album of all time.. and that album was played a zillion times all over the world..That was a big hit here, not merely considered album filler. I remember it well - it got lots of radio play.
S & G had soooo many great songs.![]()
yes me too... however I enjoy early Art songs..like Travelling boy... as well.... and I really love Paul Simons' solo songs..especially songs like Mother & child reunion.... and Diamonds on the soles of her shoes..etcI should add that while Paul Simon wrote pretty much all of their hits, and therefore the driving force behind the duo, I thought Art Garfunkle's voice brought something special to the songs.
Much prefer the sound of S & G music to Simon's alone.
Wow! Thanks for that. I probably saw it on its air date almost 50 years ago, but not since. Well worth watching. This was the version he was talking about in 1976, with George Harrison
SureBoth from Queens ?
