Simple question to Americans about houses or buildings

It looks like an old motel to me also. I think that @Deya is correct about it at one time being for Florida vacationers, and had little “kitchenettes”, and not just bedrooms.
I remember staying in one similar back in the early 1950’s when we went to San Diego (California) to visit my grandparents. It had a courtyard like the one in the video, and each cabin had a small kitchen, so we could cook food.

We do have the government housing buildings still, but the ones I have seen were not built back in the early 50’s, more like the 60-70’s, and some are taller, more like an old apartment building.
The ones we had here in Huntsville were torn down last year and they put something else there instead. Now, they seem to be using regular apartments and just supplementing the rents, so the same apartment building can have paying renters and government paid renters.

this is another thing which is great because the USA having so many states, with all different styles of everything.... like 50 different countries but all with the same language...means that some people will have experience of knowing these buildings and some will never have seen them anywhere where they live..or have visited

Exactly the same thig happens here. Housing Authorities ( HA's)... were once known as council housing, which were /are rented properties for those on limited or no income... they're looked after by the local authroies as the Landlords...

In most of the Uk until the 80's the vast majority of people lived in Council housing, then Thatcher gave the right to everyone who could afford it to buy their council house at a reduced rate depending on how long they'd held a tenancy....so now comparitively.. there's are very few HA houses compared to when I was growing up...

The one major difference in the UK commpared to the US is that ..those in Low income housing, can and do..in many parts of the UK..live cheek by jowel with those in Privately owned homes... there's no them and us in the majority of the UK... some rented propertie are beautifully kept inside and out, and can be right next door to a privately owned property that isn't well looked after..

certainly there's upmarket areas as there was eve when I was a child and living in a council house... and there are huge areas in parts of the Uk which are entirel low income rented properties...but they are usually privately rented from slum landlords who bought them at the height of the Buy t let Era.. and rent them out to people on the dole ..or low income, and the lanlords rarely ever maintain them

Blackburn and Blackpool in the North of England are very very poor areas...I had no idea that Blackburn had any tenements..I know for sure Blackpool does not...

Mosst red sandstone buildings are in Scotland
I think you and I are not understanding where each is going on this today, and that's ok. It happens
