Sinkhole Swallows Corvettes in Kentucky

I don't really like Corvettes, but I like the old ones from 1960, like this.

Sweet Buddha's breath, this is TRULY a catastrophe of epic proportions! Why hasn't Obama declared a State of Emergency there?!?:mad:

Kids get swallowed up by these things, pets, houses - those are all replaceable. But a BLACK 1962 'VETTE?!?

Oh, the humanity ... the humanity ... :grief:

I'm just amazed at all these sinkhole stories, hadn't really heard much about them until that man's home collapsed and killed him...now, they're commonplace. Maybe they're just making news headlines more.

Best place for 'em ...... ;)

HEY!!!

Philistine !!

Don't dignify his remark with a "Phil" word, please.

All part of the rich tradition of our crumbling infrastructure ...

Saw that on the news last night. Now had it been a bunch of 57 T-Birds, I would have lost it.

Meh - when I was shopping for a car I looked at a few T-Birds. Even though at the time my television hero Highlander was driving one (a '63, I think), the ones I looked at were way overpriced for their condition. I found much better deals with Vettes, so that's how I rolled.

Got my first ride in a vette a couple years ago. Big, red convertible. Could not believe how it held the road, on curves, at fast speeds.:eek:nthego:

I've had three of them, that's how much I like them. I even taught my son to drive in the '88 ragtop. Took the '67 to Florida and back several times, ran like a top.

Sure, they have their share of problems but they also have fantastic aftermarket support and you get sports car performance for Chevy prices.

Oddly enough I don't much like the new models - they look a little too much like many of the other sport coupes. I liked the old "lines" better. ;)

Geeze, I saw where a '68 coupe just got $530,000 at Kissimmee - that's insane!

It's interesting and fun to see stuff like that, but I like my daily drivers much more. Trailer queens have never really been my thing. ;)

Hard to believe! Wonder if you can tell that there is a sink hole underneath? Did they have any idea that this was not solid ground? Oh boy!

There are so many sinkhole in this country, and while some of them are known and mapped I get the impression that they weren't aware of this one, or if they were the "experts" told them not to worry.

There was an infamous one that occurred in 1959 in Pennsylvania - The Know Mine Disaster. It claimed 12 lives when the river broke through into the mine shafts, and was only plugged by dropping entire railroad cars into the hole.
