AlligatorBob is correct. A short time later the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional. SC criminal law decisions are retroactive in nature if punishment is prospective, so that would have abrogated his death sentence even if CA had not done so.

He's 77, the state will end up paying for his medical care and more anyway. He should spend the rest of his life in prison!

The other day I read an article about the hearing coming up. It speculated that the Gov. would probably be granting it this time. I am not sure what went down, but isn't a part of it accepting responsibility or something? Not sure how they determine it. If not a compasionate release due to illness, I do not know the criteria.

Whatever the criteria is, from the looks of him, I don't think he meets it.

I would feel less dissatisfied if he were 99 but completely satisfied if he had died in prison.

I have no problem with the abolishment of capital punishment but I think in-house diet for those guilty of such serious crimes should be bread and water.
 
Perhaps the Kennedys have forgiven him. Say what you want about them, but they are a very devout Catholic family. What other reason would they have approved of the parole? Hmmmm.... ?
 
I really liked Robert Kennedy, more than I liked his brother, but I don't think prison time served should have anything to do with how well liked or famous the victim is. Ordinary people have an equal right to live and they often have families who love them, too. The average person who commits murder in the U. S. serves less than 20 years. He's served more than twice that time so I think he should get out.
 
Some mixed feelings here. Neither John nor Bobby gave two pins about Norma Jean when they took her to bed and plunged her into a life of confusion. Furthermore there is some evidence that Bobby poisoned her. Whether that is true or not it cannot be denied that both brothers caused her plenty of mental anguish which (either by Bobby's poison or by her own hand) was instrumental in her premature death. So ..... Bobby , huh?

Perhaps so, and that is their right, maybe even the right thing to do. However I don't see that it should have anything to do with releasing him.

I disagree with letting him out. For first degree murder I do not believe we should ever release murderers, ever. Makes all this simpler, no parole hearings, no need for further discussion, just stay put. As to this 20 year average, it seems too little to me, but I am not sure what all is being averaged. It probably includes manslaughter and lesser murder charges, which perhaps should carry lesser sentences.

In the case of murder I don't agree, fortunately we don't have a lot of murders so the cost is bearable. And when the cost of release is taken into account it is not so much. Many of these people end on government dole and/or commiting more crime, still costing us even after release. No matter though, for first degree murder I think we need to just eat the cost and leave them in jail...

Oh c'mon. You can't prove the veracity of anything said here.
 
He still faces another 120 days in prison, governor approval and deportation so what could be the rest of his life will include legal matters.
