Sitcoms nowadays

Today's sitcoms seem contrived, and the dialogue a bit strained, attempting to be funny but somehow not quite hitting the mark. Also, very simplistic and stereotype, like the writers are just trying to fill in their day at the office, waiting for quitting time.

Programs like the Goldbergs, Broke, Fresh Off the Boat and Splitting Up Together just don't resonate with my sense of humor, which I insist is pretty forgiven generally.

Of course the 1970s was the golden age of sitcoms(IMO) but the 90s yielded a number of very good sitcoms such as Seinfeld, Friends and King of Queens.

I'm sure I've missed some good shows worth watching- anyone have recommendations for current sitcoms on TV?

Of course I don't see any good sitcoms coming down the pike either, but, maybe Harry Chapin. nailed it. :)

And all the changes
Keep on changing
And the good old days
They say they're gone.
Only wise men
And some new born fools
Say they know what's going on.
But I sometimes think the difference is
Just in how I think and see
And the only changes going on
Are going on in me

We don't watch the new sitcoms on TV. I have a wall full of old DVD's that we watch. Everybody Loves Raymond, The Golden Girls, Abbot and Costello, The Cosby Show, The Johnny Carson Show and a lot more.
The news shows on TV are not worth watching.

We don't have television or any online movie/sitcom/dramacom subscriptions. I do follow SNL on Youtube and have become disinterested in their show. It just isn't funny to me, or entertaining for the reasons @squatting dog's poem suggests. Their highest rating was in 1980 at 13.5. In 2017 it's rating was 5.6.

I basically watch reruns of what I watched back when I had tv. The only new one I liked was Big Bang Theory. I enjoyed Hot in Cleveland and Mom. But the newer stuff is pretty awful. It's not even funny.

Usually it takes a two or three episodes to catch on to a show. I’ve tried a few lately that I couldn’t even get through 10 minutes.

Last Man Standing is my favourite sitcom of recent years.
Nothing from anywhere they speak English has hit the mark with me otherwise,
And last night we had the Friends reunion on here...still funny.I keep hearing Frasier is coming back...perhaps that will be funny.

It seems the younger generation finds humor in the mundane. When my children were young adults at home, they would be laughing heartily at some comedian being apathetic and I'd be sitting there thinking WTH? Ah you can't explain humor can you. They did enjoy old silent films of Buster Keaton though. I think it had a lot to do with his stone-faced demeanor.

''"There are no funny sitcoms on tv anymore. I can tell whether I will watch them from the promos they show promoting them. I tend to watch all of the "Law and Order" shows. Also the old "CSI" shows. Anything Dick Wolf is involved in is good. I used to love "Criminal Minds" when Gideon was the main profiler. I still watch the old ones but don't waste time watching the new so called comedy ones.

The only sitcom I got interested in of late is Young Sheldon which is about a young genius and his family. I find the characters and the story line likeable, probably because it's set in a time and place with moral values and no trashy language. It's a half hour show with 10 minutes of commercials, so to get around that I record it and fast forward the commercials. The best old sitcoms for me were Seinfeld, Cheers, Tool Time, and Roseanne.

The Connors is the most depressing and negative characterizations of people ever. I quit watching it. I think Married With Children is funny but that's about it for me. Everything is too damn political now. One wrong sneeze and the shows are cancelled and that begs the question, who is running the networks now days? Apparently is is the Cancel Culture.
