These so funny to me - all these word! LOL! I can not figure out slang words from here where I living - never mind other country! Oh my gosh...so funny!
Arse and butts lol.... bollocks! hHAHAAA! I will tell those word to Steven and he will laugh (or else he will be gutted - or knackered) haha! I laughin... so funny

Redd up - get ready. "Dinner will be soon, better redd up the table."
Loud - pungent. "My, that limburger cheese is loud."
All - finished, gone. "You should have asked for a piece earlier. Now, the pie is all."
Or my grandfather's favorite just plain ol' Midwest term for "gone" - "That pie is singing the doxology."

"Wally dugs" - a pair of ornimental china dogs (left & right facing) that sit either side of a fireplace or mantle.
"Poke" - a small paper bag eg. A poke of sweeties
"Dreich" - wet & miserable (weather)
"Guy dreich" - really miserable.
"Toty" - small
"Toty wee" - (relatively) very small
"You'll have had yer tea".. this is a tongue in cheek reference to the (totally untrue) Scottish being miserly.

"Hits the spot" - generally meaning "that's just what I needed".
BUT....I read a small article written by a woman whose father was a minister back in the 1930's. She said people from the church would bring the family pies, home canned goods and other food and then ask next Sunday whether they had liked it. She said her father struggled with the dilemma of whether to lie about something that was terrible and say he had enjoyed it or to tell the truth and hurt someone's feelings. His solution: he said that the garbage can would henceforth be designated "THE SPOT". When something had to be thrown in the garbage because it was inedible and he was asked about it on Sunday, he'd truthfully say, "Sister Williams, that cake you brought us sure did HIT THE SPOT!" Win-win.

Haha! I'll interpret although I still have trouble with a Glasgow accent and don't know every single slang/Scots words. I've lived here 16 years.

There are actually a lot of differences between Capt's language/slang in East Scotland and where I live in the West.

Is because I speaking Italian all day long at home and to my family who lives near me....my English is mainly for online and out in public...or work.... so I not say English very often. I know I should speak it more, but I just forget. : } You do VERY well for live there only 16 year.... there is much to learn about Scotland and I think you have do very very well. I proud of you, Annie.

I love it here and pay attention. Took a while to understand the accents.
I see....well...is like that here in US also, Annie....the South say things different than the North.... and the west coast different than the East coast - - each region speak the way they do from long ago language...is the same in different parts of Italy also. Is not so easy to learn them all - that why I enjoy to see them here... SO many difference but also so many of the same kind of words, just pronouce differently.... I find it fascinating.
I'm sure it take a while, Annie.... it is like that for me, also...... even just different regions close to us...they say words that I have not hear before.... but is nice to learn of different languages.... I know one thing! I learn that we NOT make the "okay" sign with our fingers to ANYone in public...because it NOT mean "okay" or "I like" .... it mean the hiney part to other languages. Oh boy! I learn the hard way - I insult some one in New York - it was at a pizza restaurant.... we stop in quickly for just a bite and when we leaving, I make the sign like "okay! " - very good pizza! And they was from Arabia and it was a insult to them what i make with my fingers. I not EVER do that again!... oh my goodness...they eyes was full of hate for me! Steven say, "come on- we goin' right now" lol........... yike! So you not EVER make that sign in public. Is not a good thing to do. haha.... be very careful not to insulting people.... they not like that. : /
