Here are 8 questions to see if you know anything
about Smart Phones.

Here.

Yes and I love it. I'm using it right now to access this forum because I'm on a bus. I also just received a message from dh telling me his train broke down so he's taking the bus.

I got 3 out of 8 correct.

Hard to believe more people have phones than toilets - there's something basically wrong there.

If you couldn't tell, I'm not a cell phone person.

I bought my first smart phone last year. Its an older model with the manual keyboard at the bottom. I bought it so I can access the internet when out of town, but its not my primary means of accessing the net. When home I use my laptop or my Nook tablet. Using the tablet at this moment. I have a very limited data plan with my phone, just 1/2 a gig. But enough for my needs.

In African countries (Uganda is my experience) everybody has a mobile. It's rare for anyone to have a landline. They use it for talking, texting and doing banking. Many people don't have toilets, at least not flushing ones. They have pits.

At home I use my PC, and sometimes my tablet for the internet. I use my smartphone away from home.

An acquaintance who worked in South Africa for several months told me everyone had a cell phone. I don't know if most were smartphones - this was a couple years ago.

Smart phones are amazing and I'm lucky to own one.

My granddaughter and her family of 5 all have iphones, she controls all their schedules from her phone, its amazing to just watch her...lol

My brother's family all use iphones. My sil bought one as soon as the first one was released.

I prefer an android. We switched to smartphones from mobiles about 5 years ago.

I have an android tablet, but have only had iphones, mainly so that granddaughter can help me with it if need help.....also I'm on their ATT plan, that only cost me $10 per month.

I did my phones on contract but this summer when I wanted to upgrade to a bigger screen I bought the phone and just kept a contract for £12.99. Unlimited text and calls and 500mb data.

When I get to the US in two weeks I'll get a short term contract which includes data so I can always be in touch.

Like you Annie I love my android smartphone (well two now an extra one for travelling) I only made the switch from mobiles about 18 months ago, and find it invaluable for everything really, even used the google maps app to guide our driver to our accommodation in Indonesia recently.
I always buy a local sim card when travelling, the Indonesian one with 4Gb data plus calls was only £5/$7.5 the same in India when I was last there. I have a permanent PAYG sim for Russia and top it up, 5Gb for £3/$4.5 its a lot cheaper than roaming charges.

I buy a sim card with a 30 day contract when in the US. In Thailand I buy a sim card for 30 days at a time. The internet via the phone when there is no wifi is dead fast! For Europe I pay the £2/day on my Vodafone and get everything I get here.

I have had smart phones for years now..I'm currently on my second iphone ...hubs has the larger and latest iphone 6 which is would be too huge for my hands..but he can do everything but cook the dinner on it..

I don't use my phone for much other than the usual stuff...I sometimes use it to access the internet (news and google mainly)...and I don't have my Sat Nav with me I've used it for it's Sat Nav capabilities. I use the camera a lot...and I have several apps on it..latest one is the ability to remotely control my heating and water from anywhere when I'm out and about!

Although I have a smartphone I am totally clueless as to what it offers. My son has bought a larger one...so he is giving me his smaller one. Though smaller it is twice the size of mine and does even more things that I shall be clueless about.:playful: He was showing me how I can talk instead of typing texts....and it could not understand my accent

Holly, If you hold done the home button you get Siri, but if you go to the message keyboard where you type your message there is a tiny microphone icon (bottom left) that you can touch and that listens to your message and types it for you.

Nona, don't feel bad, the mic can't always understand me either. My daughter sent me a message and voiced "I have to work today", the mic (or maybe spellcheck) replaced "work" with the F word instead. She never says that word. She didnt notice it and sent it to me. I said, "um, sweetie, are you sure you meant to share that with me?" We both got a big laugh from it.

Oh my....what a great object lesson that is. (Can I lol?) Now I shall be reminded to recheck before I send a voice to text message. :bigwink:

FYI...when I pulled up this BT.com web site, I immediately got 9 attempts to install "tracking cookies" on my computer.
Me too - and no sign of a 'quiz'. I gave up.

Then again, I am a techno-dinosaur. Not really part of the 21st century.

I don't own a mobile (cell) phone of any kind - smart or 'dumb'. Never have had one.
(God, I have enough trouble with the cordless home-phone).
Never had a credit card and have only had this computer for a few months.

Only missed one (# dropped in toilets) :). I only have moderately intelligent phones and check them 3 times a day each -- and I've set different ring tones for family members, in case of emergency. We mostly communicate by text anyhow. Turn on the locator and web features only when I'm travelling in case of a problem.
Been too long in the digital world, I guess. . .
