So, I Got A New Knee...

Friday, I finally, after an 8 year delay, I had my left knee replaced.

The surgery went well, and even though I'm only two day out, I feel pretty good. Walking laps around the house with my walker.

Pain medication wise, I'm supposed to take it every 6 hours, but it's really worked out to around every 8 hours.

I learned a really fast lesson about the ice bath, though. I took it off Saturday in order to unwrap all the ace bandages, like I was told to do. However, I didn't put it back on, then I fell asleep for a couple hours. Good Lord! My knee was so swollen I couldn't bend it or straighten it at all.

Needless to say, it's been on ever since.

Anyway, something I wanted to share with everyone that I thought was pretty neat:

The last thing they had me do before my surgery was mark which knee I was getting done. Instead of just making a mark, I wrote 'Thanks, Dr. Brady'.

Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped my knee on Saturday afternoon, and discovered he wrote back 'You're welcome. You needed it D.M.B.'

One of my dancer friends had both knees replaced over time, and both her biggest complaint AND best advice was that physical therapy hurt like a bitch, but it was the one thing that ensured she regained full range of motion, no stiffness and no pain as part of her recovery.

I’m glad your surgery went well, and hope you keep up with your PT!

Pleased you've come through... and getting around already..well done. Looks like a really neat job... and despite your pain you've still kept your sense of humour (y)

I'm on the waiting list for a new Keecap..

I agree. My father got a knee replacement and didnt do any physiotherapy . His knee never did heal properly. Make sure you DO the physiotherapy. It’s VERY important!
