Steven Weber and Kenesha Antoine were staying in Pemba Island, CNN affiliate WBRZ reports, in a wooden cabin with a bedroom submerged beneath the ocean surface off the east coast of Africa.
Weber proposed on Thursday by swimming underwater and holding a handwritten note against the bedroom windows, according to a video Antoine posted Friday on Facebook, before presenting a ring.

I have no idea why "proposals" (marriage and now, prom) have gotten so elaborate. Apparently you just can't ask someone to marry you......it has to be a Cecil B. DeMille production with a cast of....at least....dozens.

Last year, a high school boy attempted suicide after his girlfriend turned his prom invitation down. Apparently his spelling out "WILL YOU GO TO PROM WITH ME" in red Solo cups on her front lawn wasn't sufficient and she was embarrassed by the lack of pyrotechnics or something of the nature.

On another forum, a young woman who has been living with her boyfriend for seven years and has two children with him was bemoaning that they can't get "engaged" until they've saved up the $3,000 for the photography and the approximately $10,000 it's going to cost to fly everyone down to Disney World so that he can propose in front of Cinderella's castle and have it all caught on camera. Frankly, I think THAT train has left the station.

What happened to the guy mumbling, "You wanna go to prom with me?" while sipping a coke at the drive-in? What happened to the guy a few years later, mumbling "I guess you wanna get married or something..."?

For the record, I did the proposing to my husband. All it cost was a piece of paper, an envelope and a five cent stamp. That's about sixty cents in today's funds and didn't involve photography, pyrotechnics or a cast of onlookers. It worked.

Too bizarre! .. All of these big productions are lost on me. .. In days gone by, we seemed to get things done ... dating, proposals, marriage and babies without making the evening news.
I just don't get it.

Girls raised on Disney Princess stories?
I think both men and women want to feel/know they are special, and extravagance is one way to show them how special they are. However, if you have to be shown using "stuff" you probably aren't mature enough to pick a partner.

My husband didn't even have to propose to me . He told me the day we met that someday we were going to get married. When I was 15yrs old we met on May 28th and 5 yrs later on May 28th he handed me an engagement ring and only said "I Love you". I took the ring and the following May 28th we got married.
