Social interaction of the strange kind...

I must look very approachable. If there’s a nutjob out there, they’ll sidle up to me and spill their guts.
But recently I had a rather poignant interaction. I was walking home from the shops when a woman going the other way said hello and started to talk. She was about my age so I thought oh, good, always ready to meet new people.
She said she was going to the mall to have a coffee, and would I like to join her? She’d shout me a coffee. Well why not I thought. So off we trotted, back to the mall.
We sat down in a nice cafe. I sat. She sat. She made no move to order anything. 😮 I sat a bit longer, we chatted. I was beginning to realise she was not as she seemed.
Finally I got up and said look, I’ll buy the coffee, ok? Oh thank you she said. So I did.
She was a well presented woman but after she finished the coffee she licked the froth out of the cup 🤭.
By then it dawned on me - there was just a touch of dementia going on here. I got up and said my goodbyes - she asked me which direction I was going...ah...the direction I was going when you accosted me, lady.
Anyway I’ve seen her a few times since, she always says hello but obviously doesn’t recognise me. She’s harmless and seems to manage ok, but I just hope her family are keeping an eye on her.....

Ahhhhh... that’s so kind of you to have coffee with her. When I’m out walking or shipping I sometimes run into people and they talk and talk. It’ can be difficult to get away at times so I can relate.

Patros the kindness you showed that lady was really nice.
Many times while I'm in the supermarket people come up to me and begin to discuss a product I'm looking at on the shelf. Before you know it I'm told their whole life history. I think they use the product as a way to start a conversation. To be honest I really don't care if their great Aunt Tilly made banana bread with whole wheat flour or that Uncle Frank ate a whole cherry pie in one sitting.
I try to have patience but sometimes I have other errands to run. I try not to be to abrupt and usually end up slowly walking backwards towards the next isle

Yeah, I have the time so why not...

Very cool, Patros! 🌹

Very nice of you! She might not have had enough money to buy a coffee, let alone two.

Hmm, however, next time we meet remember I prefer hot chocolate over coffee and a cookie would have been great as well. 🤣
