Some Olympic Sports Are Stupid

Boxing.

Yes you have to be athletic to box. Yes the ancient Olympics had boxing. Yes people pay money outside the Olympics to see boxing, mma, and bare knuckle fights.

But death is much more likely than throwing a metal ball in shot put.
Especially when they pair males against females.

Funny, I was telling my Wife the other day that I didn't understand why equestrian events were in the Olympics. I may be wrong, but I don't believe horses are try Olympians.

So given that, why not add motor sports to the Olympics? What is the difference (in this context) between a rider and a horse vs. a driver and a vehicle?

Hay (pun), I have nothing against horses and definitely appreciate the skills of the equestrian events, but why are they there???

From the original sports of the Olympics, this trend toward the new and unusual seems to grow every decade. Mankind can't seem to come up with anything entertaining without having to turn it into a competition. I actually quit following the Olympics when this started getting out of hand years ago. Do they have skateboarding yet? Frisbee? There's still plenty of stuff out there to add. Eventually, it will be the answer to great loss of the Barnum and Bailey Circus. Elephant training a and clown competition, anyone?

Like many things, they started out simple. Contests were mostly skills that would be useful in combat. Then, organizers had to "improve" them and make them bigger and more entertaining. Parades are like that: the Rose parade, Macy's, the Doo Dah parade. Young people spend a good deal of their life working for a disk of gold and some glory and others make big bucks from it.

My son told me that many of the events, like break dancing, can only be watched if you subscribe to Peacock TV.

Olympic events change. New ones are added, others are dropped depending on 2 things; the number of participants and the size of the audience/ticket sales. Some events are dropped due to injuries and safety concerns.

I remember when skateboarding was added and when a couple of track & field events were dropped.

Do they still have archery competition? I can't find it mentioned anywhere.
Yes, they have archery. If I remember correctly, it had been temporarily suspended from competition, but in the early 1970’s, it was brought back.
