Some Topics I Can’t Read

If a title seems like it’s about the torture or unacceptable death of a child, I just can’t read the topic. There’s no reason anybody should leave their little child in the back of a hot vehicle. Or female ******* mutilation in some countries. All too sad.

I stopped reading "shock" news a long time ago and I'm a better person for that. I prefer to read news about rising interest rates, the price of gas and human interest stories but not "garbage" news. Actually, if you ask me, the less news the better the world would be. Perhaps garbage news is made directly to please the losers of this world who see the world as an ugly horrible place and hey, "here is the proof on today's 6 o'clock news." I'm glad I have a life beyond TV and a life without starring at the smartphone for 16 hours each day.

We know, all too well, about the sick, depraved, inhumane doings of our fellow humans. We have to psychologically protect ourselves from all the crazies out there. Since we are mostly powerless to prevent the gore, we have to ignore it.

I have always been adverse to cruelty, terror, hatred, injustice, and traumatic events - but I wanted to know, in hopes of changing the world. Naïve. The older I get (although I still care deeply), the less I am inclined to expose myself to all the negativity. My time on earth is running out. I can only hope to change things for a small circle of family, animals, and friends. And, I need to take care of my own mental health if I am to die happy.

We all need to psychologically disconnect from the endless sea of suffering and cruelty that is all around us, not that we are insensitive to it but in order that we can remain untainted and so more effective as individuals to influence those things that we can in life…
