These jobs seem very underrated to me but again this is a broad generalization. You are welcome to add your own
or disagree.
Some librarians, especially in larger libraries--public and academic. Librarians need a Masters degree and often a broad knowledge
of most subjects, know computers well and books and authors. Speed is very important because people do not like waiting.
They are usually underpaid. BTW, they do not check out books to you.
Some part-time College faculty everywhere. Very underpaid, usually with no union or a weak union. They teach the same courses as full time
professors but with no benefits (or few) no health insurance, no security at all. Often stressful and work is done at home without a private
office.
Umpires in baseball and sports referees. No one likes umpires and these sports judges get no recognition. Everyone takes them for granted and
ignores them until they make a bad call. Looks like hard work to me. Sharp eyes and fast reflexes and constant travel.
Some web page designers. Very creative and clever on many sites. Their work is anonymous and no one cares who created it. I marvel at their
ingenuity. Some web pages are beautiful--and of course some are awful, too.
Movies and television writers. Traditionally, they are paid much less than performers and no one even remembers them or cares. Some of your
favorite movies and TV shows are written by publicly obscure writers. Only hHollywood insiders know of them. All the credit goes to the actors.
Rod Serling of the Twilight Zone is a notable exception. He was very well known and I met him once.
