On more than one occasion my Son-in-laws Mother has called me crazy. She says that I'm crazy because I worry too much. She said she never worried a day in her life. I don't pay much attention to her because she leaves her husband (who had a stroke) alone all day locked in his room because she said if something is going to happen to him then it happens, but she doesn't have the time to worry.She said the only important thing to her is to be able to do what she wants and not watch him all day.

what do you mean by idiot? what kind of idiot? can you elaborate further? followed by further interrogation...what makes you use that word? Did you get enough sleep last night? Are you feeling ok? are you the full quid? Give me 10 good reasons why I deserve to be called idiot.

It doesn't bother me if someone calls me an idiot because I know I'm far from one. Some other insults have hurt me but I try to consider the source--usually someone being thoughtless for whatever reason. It's on them and not me.

What you learn on twitter is that an insult has as much power as you want to give it. And people run out of insults. And insults are like water off a duck's back after a while. If you are really into giving insults, focus on being creative would be my advice. Then at least there is some entertainment.

My older bothers used to call me an idiot all the time. After a while, you start to think it is true. (if the insult comes from someone you hold in high esteem like i did with my bothers) Also I think it is a crying shame if parents insult their kids too. I was quite a sensitive child and took it to heart. The long term effects of insults to a child are worse than we can imagine.

I'm sorry you were treated that way..not fair at all. I was called a "pig" by a man down my street and I took it to heart and even started calling myself that. I know what it's like to be called names for sure. I just don't ever recall being called an idiot but sure it has happened. I tell myself "just because ______ called me that doesn't make it true! Learned that in counseling...been through a lot of it for abuse issues.

I agree that what we tell ourselves each day is most important. Our self talk can be pretty brutal.
I know what it’s like being continuously criticized by apparent loved one. (?) Those insults are the ones that can stick with us and cut deep.
