Someone Shovelled Our Driveway

when i still lived in a house, neighbor was CRAZY/good! he'd "yell" at me if he saw a shovel in my hands. he'd send one/both of his teen boys over with orders to take no money! i would sneak them a little something on a Wawa card... what teenager doesn't need gas money!

When we were younger and lived in the City my Husband would spend hours outside shoveling the snow for all the older neighbors. Since we moved I won't allow him to shovel because of health issues. When we had snow last winter we paid a young boy to do it and hopefully, he will show up during this snowstorm.

Neighbours looking out for each other hasn’t gone out of style. Our neighbour often shovels our driveway without expecting anything for it.
He has a riding mower where we have a push snow blower. When he first started doing it my husband was so thrilled, he told all his coworkers. They in return told him that the neighbours doing it because you are the old people next door. 😂 Either way it was looked at with appreciation. My husband does the end of their driveway whenever he can and offers their dogs extra treats.

Once years ago I had mowed the other neighbours ditch part of their lawn which technically belongs to the township. She waited until we had over company to hassle me about it. Sometimes a good deed never goes unpunished but everyone is different.

We all help one another here, too, and no one frowns or complains.

If my neighbour needed the help, which he absolutely doesn’t, the help would be appreciated. Everyone in our small community knows each other, anyone who needs help gets it. So by doing this, someone was implying he needed it. His words - guess people think I’m too old.

The other part is that they took away something he enjoys doing. He has absolutely nothing to do during Covid restrictions. These are very short driveways - the men chat while they’re out there.

I do understand the logistics behind what you're saying, Jules... the exercise, the fresh air, a chance to have a chat with a neighbour or two, I totally get it.

I get what you are saying too, Jules. But the guy needs to get a grip on the good side of life. He can still go out there and sweep the driveway or something. Call his guy friends and tell them to grab a cup of coffee and meet on the driveways for some guy chat for a few minutes. Lots of possibilities besides being mad at someone who was trying to be nice

...someone is implying that you’re incompetent. There’s another possibility that someone is checking out the community. Theft has been happening nearby.

The chances of someone sweating bullets shoveling your driveway so he could be mean to you is highly unlikely. And as far as linking this good samaritan to the recent thefts in your neighborhood is also highly unlikely.

It's a super sad day when the world can't help one another without requiring a motive. Or for them to be forced to openly boast about their good deed. Does this mean when you pay-it-forward to a stranger in the fast food line that you could be in serious trouble for road rage retribution in the world we live in now?

On the news today, three people died over a shoveling dispute, probably a long running dispute. A couple was shouting at their neighbor from the porch, so he shot them both and killed himself.
Snow shoveling dispute ends with three dead

Police believe a neighbor shot a husband and wife and then turned the gun on himself.

PLAINS, Pa. — A disagreement over snow shoveling has led to the deaths of three people in Plains Township, according to police.

The Plains Township police chief calls it a double murder and suicide.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Monday on West Bergh Street.

Investigators have not released the names of those involved.

Luzerne County First Assistant District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce confirms the murder victims are husband and wife. They were shot dead in the street.

The alleged gunman, their neighbor, committed suicide inside his home.
