I was getting out of my truck yesterday and my neighbors granddaughter I'm guessing 4 years of age looked at me and said "bless". She then came up to me and took my hand and toughed her forehead with it while saying "bless." Then he walked away. Pretty cool. All children are angels without wings.

If we could just get back the innocence in the world for our children. I feel the same way about someone blessing you for being a blessing to them. It's sad when that feels somehow wrong or off.

This is one of the most charming things I've ever heard. Imagine the loving thoughts in her mind as she did that.

No, Olivia, just brainwashed. It would be innocent if it weren't programmed in by some adult. But it was.
 
There is no limit to what a young child will do to please their parents & get their love. The child is probably getting religion shoved down his throat at home 24/7.
 
I would rather a child get "brainwashed" about something kind and sweet than about something nasty as happens too often. And before you say it, yes, it's a crappy world and we've got to be worried about having a sweet, innocent child and what could happen to them. Really sad we have to put adult ideas into children's heads.

...could be that even though little girl did not understand the context she may have seen on TV news the man hug Amber Guyger and forgive her for murdering his brother or maybe when the little girl saw the prisideing judge give Guyger her bible and shared a prayer with her... it moved the little girl???

I was replying to Win's comment about how parents shouldn't be allowed to teach their children their beliefs. Slippery slope at the very least.
 
@fmdog44 lives in Houston. "Blessed" is a colloquialism in the South that can have religious meaning or can mean simple good wishes. The child and her family may have never set foot in a church. But even if they have, I'm pretty sure the First Amendment hasn't yet been overturned.

The prejudice in some of the responses to the actions of a sweet child showing affection to @fmdog44 is disturbing.

Teaching your children your beliefs is OK. Cramming it down their throats constantly & encouraging them to proselytize is stupid.
 
Bless you is very common here in the South especially in rural La. where my sis lives and I was raised. We say it a lot. Sometimes instead of thank you. Its not trying to inflict my religious beliefs on you. But it is wishing you well. Granted the younger ones don't say it but its very common in folks my age and older.
 
i dont think parents are cramming religion down a childs throat--they are showing them a way to go -when the child gets older if it is not the religion he wants he/she will change--being taught some religion is better than none at all
