This is almost exactly the same fantasy I had as a little girl. I'm old enough that it was before The Lord of the Rings so instead of a hobbit hole, I used to daydream about a cute little shack in a nearby vacant lot that actually had a few trees on it that would hide the shack. (Hadn't ever seen a forest in real life yet at that age.)

Most women want to be 'Stay-at-Homers'. Only a small percentage of these Alpha Female Feminists would rather have an Office career. These self-aggrandizing Feminists sold everyone down the river. Gloria Steinem who famously said 'A fish does not need a bicycle' even got married.

What about them gals that join the army and want to kill, kill and kill! Alpha Female is right!

I daydream about a cute apartment or condo in San Francisco or Seattle.
I had the impression that these areas have some of the starkest income inequality in all of North America. As far as I can tell this has been true for decades though Hollywood continued to portray them otherwise until quite recently.

Perhaps I have the wrong idea. They seem like hellscapes to me unless one is very wealthy.

Something like this maybe (stole this from @RadishRose over in the Interior Ideas with Pix thread:

Yesssss!! I used to subscribe to Instagram accounts that featured (AI) cozy interiors, with lots of fireplaces and books, and beds, etc. I'm tempted to try to post an image, but I'm afraid if I access Instagram my account will be reactivated. (Long story.) But I love to mentally transport myself to images such as this one!

Not sure why so many think young women don't want careers when almost 60% of college graduates these days are women. I'm sure there are some, just like young men, who would love to not have the pressure of work, but it doesn't compute for me.

Oh come now, it is horrible living so far from humanity. All there is out here is animals and insects. There everywhere, not a human in sight. It gets powerful lonely out in the sticks. You best be glad you have some neighbors near ya. No one will even know when I lie down for the last time. :)
I have been thinking my credit card company will probably miss me first. Still, I'd rather be "found" than "assisted".

There is a broad range between just wanna stay home and kill, kill, kill.

Yes, exactly seadoug and Alizerone - nothing to suggest most women want to be stay at homer's at all.

And obviously people can be a stay at home parent for a period of time and then return to work and obviously women and men are all different types, most of us between the extremes of stay at home never have a paid job and alpha feminists.
Rather odd to think everyone ( or is it just women? ) have to choose between 2 polarised extremes.

As a man, I don't recall ever feeling that I had the option to not bring home a paycheck. To me, that seems to be something only available to females. That said, if a family's circumstances allow, I believe that when done well being a full-time homemaker and mother can be one of the most important and challenging careers out there.

So many? That was one comment, Doug. Or do you mean it's a popular notion among the general population?

My adult grandkids are saying young men these days are choosing to drop out of the workforce as more and more young women are stepping in. Men aren't dropping out because women are stepping in, the kids are saying young men just don't want to work. When I asked them why, they said "I don't know; I guess they think it's not worth it."

I don't know if the kids are right about all that; it's what their friends are telling them.

Well, very rarely, maybe occasionally if I really, really concentrate, and the TV or radio are switched off, and if the arthritis is behaving.... otherwise almost never. 😊

I can remember as an 18-year-old sitting and jawing with my friends about whether men or women have it better. I recall stating that it was much better to be a woman because "imagine how hard it would be to be a man, having to work for the rest of their lives to support a family???"

Yeah, I was pretty dense. I had these visions of working for a few years, getting married and having kids, and being a stay-at-home mother and wife. I'd like to go back and ask my 18-year-old self, "So how did THAT work out for ya?"

When I was 18 and where I grew up, it was already understood that both husband and wife would have to work outside the home or you couldn't afford any kind of roof over your head. I guess it made me grow up faster than I might've otherwise.

Many are allowed to live at home, nice home cooked meals and if they work part time, they have enough spending money to do things. There’s one grandson like this. His friends are now making good money in the trades and he’s finally thinking of going back to school. There was no need to work much.

Your best friend buying the latest version of X-Box is pretty incentivizing.

They'd change their minds quick if their parents kicked their asses out of the house. I wouldn't tolerate a son doing nothing. Never, never in a million years. Why? 'Cause it's bad for them.
