The quest for a new Speaker of the House continues. Paul Ryan seems to be the last hope for a somewhat sane candidate... yet the 40 rogue teabaggers may not accept him? Something is really wrong when Paul Ryan is not considered "conservative" enough... don't you think? Anyway.. Ryan agreed to accept the job is his conditions are met.. So now we wait... Will there be a Speaker Ryan and if not...Speaker Who? Its said that the Republican House is completely ungovernable now. My question.. if they cannot govern themselves.... well.... how does anyone expect them to be able to govern the country.. ??

Forgive me if I seem overly harsh, but to an outsider, all these house shenanigans for want of a better word, seem better suited to a backward banana republic than a major world power. It is almost slapstick.

Total disarray for the Repubs today. They are hoping that he can pull the disparate groups together...

No need to forgive you... It appears that way to me and it's down right embarrassing.

It may seem wrong to some, but we do elect our Representatives and Senators from many different locations about this country and for many different reasons. There is no law that says all Representatives must vote the same nor that all Senators must vote the same. There are no laws that say all of one party must all vote the same or think the same as some think they should. No reason for either the right or left to just sit around and do nothing but go by party choices as that is not part of the US way of doing things. Those wishing we were all alike just have no idea how a Republic like the US is supposed to operate. I would prefer a NO PARTY government and let the Constitution be our guide, not political nonsense as we have for far too many years now.

A person elected in large and rural Montana has far different reasons to be represented that another from another much smaller state or district like New York City would have.

Bob, geographical and cultural differences is what makes the UNITED States the great country it is. Since its beginning, those differences have come together to govern as one... until seven years ago. At that time, one of the political parties suggested they would make certain to obstruct... not govern. The differences in today's Congress are not those of geography, culture, religion, race, creed, etc. The differences are political and have been initiated by the far right wing of the Republican Party. One of Paul Ryan's demands, if he is to take the Speakership, is that politics be put aside and the Representatives get back to governing. Doubtful that the Freedom Caucus/Tea Party/Right Wing Wackos will agree to do so.

In general I do agree with what you have just posted. My one big issue is the idea it is all the blame of the Republican party as from my point of view it is the left to very left leaning of the current Democrat party that can only spend and never balance a budget. Check since 1970 who was in congress control most of those years. One time, Clinton president, debt reduced, who then controlled the congress?

Ryans call really goes to all House politicians, not just the Republicans.

My preference still, posted more than once before, it to eliminate party from our ballots and force all to elect by knowledge of the candidate, not the party. Party should always remain outside of our government. The leaders should always be required to work with issues, not party.

A lot of that is exactly what is not happening. There's far less assimilation culturally on all sides for starters and special interests on both sides can drives issues & candidates. Pretty boy Romney blames social media and lack of old school media but there is a much more informed & diverse public out there so the standard professional politician tactics have far less effect.

Doesn't look to me like the "Freedom caucus" that merry band of 40 raving lunatics is going to support Ryan.. So what does the House of Representatives do? Looks like Boehner will have to stay after all... only NOW he has the freedom to bring up a clean debt ceiling bill before we run off the fiscal cliff on November 3rd.. and get it passed with the help of the Democrats... OH WELL.............................. what a shame.

Yep, Hannity was going off, this afternoon, saying Ryan was not conservative enough. He's hoping the Freedom Caucus refuses to bend and holds out for one of their own nutcases. I really think the far right wants to wait until Cruz drops out of the Presidential race, then try to get him in as Speaker.

The thing everyone needs to keep in mind is that the Speaker is 3rd in line to the Presidency. Should something happen to both Obama and Biden, the Speaker would be sworn in as President. To see the likes of a Cruz in there would make everyone nervous.

Well, the Freedom Caucus just shot down Ryan as Speaker. Said he wasn't conservative enough and were appalled that he might actually want Congress to legislate instead of obstruct. The real "leaders" of the Republican Party... Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, etc... are keeping things riled up. The LAST thing they want is for things in Congress to return to where folks get along and do their job. The longer they can keep things stirred up, the more they appeal to their listeners.

Their comments are interesting, here's one. When I first heard of Ryan's demands, it reminded me of Trump and Carson insisting on changing the debate format or refusing to show. Thoughts of the Sinatra song My Way came to mind.

10. Rep. Matt Salmon
“It’s like interviewing a maid for a job and she says, ‘I don’t clean windows, I don’t do floors, I don’t do beds, these are the hours I’ll work.’ It’s rubbing a lot of people the wrong way,” Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.), a co-founder of the Freedom Caucus, told The Hill.[The Hill, 10/21/15]

Geez... I'm hoping that ALL of America is paying attention to this fiasco.. THIS is how they govern...
