This just keeps running through my mind and I thought I'd share.......kinda makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Even as a kid I've always been what most would consider a pretty no nonsense, straight forward, never back down, jump in and get it done, rough and tumble sort of guy and I have the scars to prove it.

Like all couples through our 40 years together there have been hundreds of heartfelt, "I love you's" and "I don't know what I'd do without you's" spoken but last week mama gave me the highest compliment a woman could give a man, at least in my mind.

We had been shopping and when we left I saw there were three older, sort of rough looking, teens mulling around my pickup and using my vehicle as a coffee table for their cups and one had his foot on the bumper .......they sort of reminded me of myself back in the day.

Knowing how I am mama grabbed the back of my jacket and gave it a light tug as if to say, "be cool, take it easy" while we walked towards our vehicle.......she knew I was legally armed if it came to that.

I didn't say a word to them I just walked her to the passenger side, let her in and locked the door as I closed it. I then went to the drivers side unlocked the vehicle again, got in and started the engine and at that point the three glared at me (I glared back) through the windshield, got their drinks off the hood and stepped aside just enough so I could leave.

We had driven about a mile and mama reached over and squeezed my arm and said, "You have always made me feel safe", nothing more.

Don't tell her but it put it put a lump in my throat.

You handled it well Ike, it's not always good when people invade our space, but as long as they don't do any damage, I can deal with it. I've been with my hubby for over 40 years now, and he makes me feel safer, especially when we're out in the wilds camping. We often say kind things to each other and let each other know of our love. Folks like you and me are lucky to have such loving companions, makes life that much easier. :love_heart:

That is sweet, you stepped up to the plate there. Me and hubby get on better than we ever have before. But with his health aliments we've reversed roles, but it works for us. I would tell him to get in and start the car. I would go up to the young men and in my best mom voice tell them to move it the **** out right now...and yes they would.
