Still August, and Halloween Decorations Being Pushed In the Stores Already!

I really hate the commercialization of holidays, as I get older, I like the holidays less and less, and that's one reason. By the time Halloween does come around, all the way at the end of October, you're already sick and tired of the ads and products, candies in the stores promoting Halloween. Anybody feel like I do, or do you think I'm just a scrooge?

You are not a scrooge SeaBreeze. I agree it is too soon to see Halloween decorations and candy in stores.

I've been complaining about that for years, SB.

The Dollar Tree used to be the worst about it. Like you said... August would roll around & they already had the shelves full of Halloween stuff. Thankfully, starting just last year, they've begun toning it down a bit. Not because they're trying to show a little class or because they thought it was a bit much, but because they just weren't selling much of it in August. They've still got some out, just not very much.

But you can bet by about the end of the first week of September, those shelves will be packed with it.

And like you said... by the time the day gets here, you've been over exposed & the fun is gone. Plus, by that time, they've already started putting Christmas stuff out too.

Add to that, that down here in Fla it's usually still fairly warm during much of October & it just takes away from the spirit of it all.

Meh. Everything sucks nowadays.

I read online yesterday that there's a Sam's Club in Florida that has their Christmas decorations out. Geez...why not just leave all the holiday stuff out for all holidays all year long!

Way back in the way back my mother used to complain because the street decorations for Christmas in our little town were put up the day before Thanksgiving...in preparation for a visit from Santa on the Friday after Thanksgiving. She said it was rushing the season. The stores stayed open late only in the week before Christmas.

Just yesterday I happened to flip past QVC on the TV & they were already selling the pre-lit trees & wreaths, etc.

Christmas has arrived along the Texas coast too .. no store wants to be the last one to compete for your $$$$

I don't want to consider Christmas before December 1st when I put up minimalist decorations, no tree, I can't be bothered with one these days. I give money to the kids and grandchildren, much less hassle. I only buy what we need for Christmas Day foodwise, I dislike waste. We have chicken breasts with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding, that is it, we don't like starters and don't wish to eat too much. I take the decorations and cards down on December 27th, and breath a sigh of relief that it is over for another year.

Halloween used to be my favorite holiday until the rest of adults took it over. Now I just celebrate Philstivus.

Halloween was a pagan festival here..and taken quite seriously..It is you Americans who have introduced ''trick or treating'' when I get a load of already fat kids..knocking my door asking for more...

You dont have to give sweets , ive given Apples,if they do nt like it the word will get around and they wont be back !

When the temps are in the high 90's, I have a hard time getting into Christmas shopping. I guess there are some who buy way ahead, but I can't see it. I usually wait until the week before and buy gift cards. Most of the people I give them to like it better than some gift they end up returning.

I refuse to have anything to do with 'trick or treating', an American import we could well do without.

Nobody said you HAD to answer the door. Most place always leave an outside door light on to invite the kids for a treat,in my neighborhood
"no lights" means NO!!!

I don't know about 'getting fat' from a night of trick or treating ... it's more about their dental hygiene.

My daughter sees Halloween as an increase in visits to her Dental office by kids and their parents alike. And a time to teach good habits to everyone... they hand out dental floss, etc.
Daily brushing, flossing and periodic cleaning of their teeth doesn't affect one day of getting candy.
... or their weight for that matter..
