Stock market plunged today.

I don't feel like we are seeing a dip that is the bottom, even though the market goes up and down all the time, my opinion is that this is the beginning of a general downward trend that will probably take three to five years to come out of. And maybe countries are more forgiving, but if I had "friends" that treated me like the US is treating their former allies and partners, I would not ever feel the same amount of goodwill and willingness to cooperate.

But, when I watch market news, they are looking ahead to the necessity to raise the debt ceiling, and the effects of giving another trillion dollars of tax breaks to wealthy people/companies. So, just all so depressing, why couldn't this have been postponed for another 15 years so I could have lived out my life without all this fear and hate and attacks happening.

you're making it sound like some desperate South American country - you haven't aligned with them have you?

I just realized why it feels as if the sky is falling for you, Mitch. You've told us you put every penny of your money into Amazon stock in the late 90s and never sold any! You taking a pretty big hit this week? 😫
putting all one’s money in to any of the magnificent 7 stocks was all fun and games on the way up. but the way down is the reverse .

they got hit a lot harder than the broad markets

I think it was a week and a half ago, I dumped almost all of my Schwab Large Cap fund, which was heavily loaded with the magnificent 7. I salvaged my initial investment, but I left two thousand dollars in the fund. Not really sure why, maybe for bragging rights that I didn't panic and sell it all at the first sign of trouble.

This week, what I left in the fund lost 30% of it's value. That was the only fund I had. Most of my investments have always been in I bonds and a money market. I never enjoyed stocks. I know I can do better in stocks, but I'm 81 years old and I don't see any long term in my future. Also, I don't need a lot more, at least not yet. I'll be content if I just hold my own for the rest of my life.

There is an old saying, "don't tell someone something they already know". Learn to "read the room".:(

I also predict that car dealers of American made vehicles will raise their prices accordingly. I can't see a car dealer missing a chance to raise prices for any reason.
A good economist can calculate what price rise will sell the same number of cars as they are currently selling.

.. Millions could lose their jobs and civil wars and international wars could spring up out of nowhere.
This is how economic cycle evolves, wars and recession/depression are needed to cut down prosperity, so another economic boom can happen.

We've already seen huge vehicle price rises in prior years:

I don't expect much increase above this that can be linked to tariffs.

I'm of the opinion that economists are about as accurate as weather forecasters.
They are way less accurate, predictions aren't in their job description.
Price elasticity is...
Besides weather forecasters are never wrong but they do get the days mixed up occasionally.😋

So glad I got out of the market a few months ago. I have family and friends in Europe that think the USA has lost their minds. So does the leadership of other countries.
Again, to those who claimed to be smart enough to have gotten out of market before this past week. You did this:
1. You pay unplanned capital gain tax.
2. You will have to time the market to make your re-entry to the market, which could be now. But are you going to re-enter now?
