Stretched earlobes

I can't understand it, but guess it's the latest rage among the young people. I see a lot of them with the large earlobe stretching rings, not that extreme though. Regardless, that's one of those things where there's no going back, unless you have plastic surgery. I personally don't find stuff like that very attractive on men or women, but that's just my opinion.
 
I think they look absolutely ghastly.

Trouble is, some of these young people are going to wake up someday and find that this kind of thing, as well as big tattoos that show in regular dress, can keep them out of good jobs (discrimination, I know, but it happens, and can be very subtle, as in not making as good an impression in an interview as a guy without all this stuff). Can you imagine some big fancy law firm hiring a person with all that stuff going on? Nope! Many businesses have rules about what can show and what they won't allow, as part of their dress code.

I wish young people would think about the future ramifications before they get permanent "body modifications."
 
I have seen the same thing, some have large holes in their ears with a circle about the size of a 20 cent coin I have wondered how they get on when one day they may want to remove the "hole"
The Australian government is cracking down on people who have been unemployed for a length of time and making them seriously look for work,BUT I wonder who will employ people who decide to decorate their bodies with all sorts of tattoos and objects ??? I have never seen so many women,with tattoos in the past as there appears to be with the younger generation but I guess when they get wobbly bits as many of us do with age they will have twice the size of the original tattoos to show off
 
I was having dinner in a restaurant several years ago and spotted a guy with one of these modifications.

My first instinct was to reach into my pocket, pull out my rubber bands and try to get one through the hoop.

I'm not allowed to dine there anymore. :(
 
I can take both of my ear lobes and tuck them into my ear canal.They are naturally long enough to do that. I got them yanked on a lot as a kid.

I agree. All the men I've ever seen with stretched lobes are working in grocery stores or pouring Lattes at Starbucks. Not much of a financial future in that.

Maybe they're happy as they are, without having to kill themselves trying to create their "financial futures".

Sometimes it's about more than money ...
 
Utterly disgusting. I would not hire them either.
We had a young guy working with us who decided to cut his hair into a mohawk, he was told to put a hat on it, it was not professional looking. Tat's that are showing too have to be covered. Again not professional. I'm sure weird colored hair would be boohoo'd as well.
I'm not understanding the mentality of these kids who do this either.
 
Personally, I think they look ugly... But I guess norms and styles change. As for employment, I suppose it might depend on what and where. There are areas that seem to attract the unorthodox thinkers.. The Arts.... and perhaps computer graphics.. At anyrate.. the earlobe thing is becoming more common.
 
I worked with a nursing assistant who wore the large ear plugs. I don't like them and asked her if she missed wearing regular earrings. The thing is though, they make this young woman look rather tough. But she's not. She's a kind person who loves animals. She told me she's had people walk circles around her when she walks her dogs in the park. I wonder if it's her or the Pit bulls. And when people get older and don't want this look, it's going to need surgery to correct.
