Summer/Winter Solstice

Summer begins in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern.

And then the days start getting shorter. Yay.

Last evening was the weirdest sunset. Partially cloudy, windy and the sun shining late on the top of the trees. It was ominous. I closed up my windows.

I doubt there's many of us, who care about the summer solstice. We have electric lights, and never look up at the night sky, or the sun's movements. But before that, there was nothing, but the night sky after dark, and the sun was our clock. Those ancient peoples intimately knew the sky and the solstices were important factors in their lives.
