Tattoos have been linked to a deadly type of blood cancer for the first time.

No, doesn't say. It talks about tattoo ink, but it's not comparing it to old ink...tattoo ink from the 40s, 50s, and up through the 70s, when a lot of military guys were coming home with tattoos, and their tats were just blue ink.
I remember a red heart, arrow piercing it, and the word 'Mother'

I couldn't find exact UK figures, but there would appears to be approx 1 in 5000 chance of developing lymphoma in any year. A 22% increase may sound alarming, but really is barely significant.
This is why the study should have been comparing newer tats to older ones...I mean, if they suspect tattoo inks are causing an increase in cancer disease, it would make sense to focus on that particular comparison. Otherwise, they wasted money, imo.

I find tattoos so repulsive, and it seemed most white folks in Coney Island this past Sunday were loaded with them. A reason to hate summer: seeing all the ugly, poorly drawn tattoos. My other reason to hate summer is motorcycle noise. Otherwise, I love summer.
I took find tattoos unsightly. Just the way I am, I think they never improve anyone's looks. I have no idea why so many people have them now.
Also noise, I hate all noise.

I look at the young girls and want to tell them to appreciate their beautiful smooth skin while they have it.
Later on it won't really matter if they look like they fell asleep on the funny papers.

Here's this year's winner of Survivor:

God I hate tattoos! Especially on women. The one above looks like a circus freak. I am proud to have a tattoo free body. Totally ink free. Ink belongs on paper. Not skin.

Hmm always interesting and disappointing how people go off track so easily from the main heading/topic [including me at times]

I have a friend that was in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He got his tattoo in Vietnam and in 2004 was diagnosed with liver disease due to his tattoo. In 2010, he received a new liver and has been living since, but takes a lot of drugs and has been on dialysis 3 days a week since about 2018. He really has NO life to speak of.
The same thing happened to my husband. He was diagnosed with Hep C and the only thing we can think of was maybe his tattoos. And the result was that it wreaked havoc with his liver but fortunately the new medications to kill the Hep C, gave his liver a chance to heal. Not a great situation but certainly a better one than your friends.

I'm not a fan of tattoos. Nonetheless, I try not to pass judgment on those who have them. Some may have them for no apparent reason; others may have them for cultural reasons, like the Māori, for instance; and others may have them in order to make a statement, attract attention, or for unexpected reasons. Maybe they understand the dangers of having a tattoo, yet they're willing to take the chance to cover up horrific injuries.

Yuck, just yuck. I'm good friends with a local guy all tatted, see him every day. On him, well they are just a part of him, so I'm used to seeing this.

My own daughter has tattoos.. but and I'm not excusing them.. they are like signature tattoos.. no colours... just like an ankle bracelet etc...

I hate it... I feel she was influenced by her heavily tattooed o/h at the time.. but she won't admit to that... this was him.....

Do you know if the tattoos were newer? Old tattoo ink is very different from newer inks. I've heard that some of the newer inks contain metals that make tattoos bright and colorful....and chemicals, too.
This is one of the things I've heard about tattoo ink. Also other issues including hindering the body's ability to properly sweat and cool itself for those with alot of tats.

I understand completely. There are members of our extended family who have tattoos and piercings.
I can't say anything of course but I find all such things repulsive. I will never understand why, especially women, have such decorations. It is not just unnecessary but ugly.
I'm seeing it all around us. Middle-aged even old women looking awful. One young woman we see at the shops regularly in passing has done everything to herself. I think she is a walking mess but she must, I presume, think she looks great.

As someone with multiple but discrete tattoos invisible under normal clothing and rendered by a world-class tattooist, I think that something other than lymphoma will claim me first. I’m hardly extreme, like rapper ā€œMachine Gun Kelly,ā€ illustrated in the article. But should the worst happen, I will meld with the disease, becoming a twisted new Batman villain referred to as Inky… šŸ™€

More poor journalism from the Daily Mail I'm afraid, why am I not surprised.

Here is a more balanced article about the study: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/30/health/tattoo-lymphoma-cancer-study/index.html

But to paraphrase, there seems to be an association, but it's not causal. Any responsible journalist would have mentioned this, since if this were proven it would be of great concern to a lot of people - but drama sells.

As Murrmurr states, inks have apparently changed a lot over the years, so before any such causal connection was made, that would have to be investigated and confirmed.

I also laughed at the line "the immune system is activated, causing a low-grade inflammation in the body ". Who knew jabbing a needle into your skin could cause a "low-grade inflammation"?!? :D Oh, I don't know, anyone who's ever had a tattoo ever?

My husband has 3 tattoos. I’ll admit to not really liking them but I love him so I put my opinions aside. I’m fairly neutral about tattoos. I definitely don’t hate them. In fact my sister in law has a small tattoo on her back shoulder and it’s actually really cute. She has a diamond stud through her nose and both are very tasteful. Some musicians have tattoos all over their face. Thats not a look I fancy.
