It is now recommended that adults over 65 receive a booster of Tetanus, diphtheria, and Pertussis.. Had mine yesterday.. no problems.. anyone else?

I was more concerned with the tetanus and the diphtheria... as whooping cough is not something that worries me.. HOWEVER, the vaccine is a combination anyway.. What I didn't realize is that whooping cough can spread from an unvaccinated grandparent to infants and it can be deadly.. So while that is not a problem for me as my grandchildren are older, it is still good to know for those in contact with babies under 12 months.

I planned on asking about it at my doctor visit next week. I am around little kids all the time and now around newborns with grands and now even greats being born. Wouldn`t want to risk passing that horrible stuff to any baby.

I had whooping cough several times in my early years of life. My Mother used to tell me stories of how she stayed up all night just to be sure I was breathing. She told me that she used to take her fingers and scoop the phlegm or mucous that would build up in my bronchial tubes and later be stuck in my throat and I would begin to choke on it. So, needless to say, I am very sensitive to any URI's that come along and make sure that I get my flu shot each year, along with my pneumonia shot and booster, which I just had this past fall. And, finally, yes, I did get the Tdap booster.

I put a lot of faith in the CDC's recommendations, whether I am being foolish to do so or not, I figure that going by some type of guideline is better than not do anything. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/combo-vaccines/DTaP-Td-DT/Tdap.htm

When I flew at the airline, I had to take an FAA physical each year. They are very serious about having all pilot's inoculations up to date, so I always visited my PCP and got a trial run before going to the FAA certified doctor for the physical. You would be surprised how much "cheating" goes on with these physicals. One would think that people can't cheat on a physical, but like most everything in life, if there is a way to do it, they will find it.
