Telephone Caller ID

I notice more and more calls I receive, the caller ID just shows the phone number or displays "wireless caller". Some do indicate the callers name, but that is getting more infrequent. I don't answer unless it shows the name if someone I know. I wanted to know why so many now don't show the caller's name. I am missing important calls because of this.

This generally happens when whoever owns the phone does not put his name into its settings. So instead of showing up as John Doe, it simply reads Wireless Caller.

there are apps people can install on their phone to have whatever name show up they want. Never seem them but I've heard they exist. So they could call you and it could show up on your phone as Social security or Police dept or some other name you may trust.... just something to be aware of.

Got one today that came through as "Private Caller. Private Number" I normally ignore those, but something made me answer. Turns out it was my cardiologist office!!! I mentioned that to the lady I talked with, and she said she would have office manager look into that.

I've heard that once you answer a phishing phone call, they know thay've got a "live one" and will never leave you alone. Thay can spoof numbers so fast, it's impossible to block them all.

The number of spam and robo calls that we get has been going up substantially....both as a result of the virus, and the upcoming elections. We signed up for NoMoRobo a year ago, and that helped, but not much. We just check the caller ID, and let it ring...and if its a legitimate caller, they can leave a message....that seldom happens.

A few days ago, I installed a Panasonic Call Blocker into our phone line. It blocks 14,000 known robo callers, and we can add up to 2,000 more just by hitting the button when we get a spam call. In just a few days, we have gone from 6 or 8 of these calls, down to 2 or 3. At this rate, perhaps by the end of the month we will not be needlessly reaching for the phone several times a day.

I blame it on this being an election year. I think politicians can go around the 'no call' list.
If policians canvassed through our phones here..I'd do my nut!!...thank God that doesn't happen...

..as for the OP...I have call screening, so no-one gets through until they announce their name , and then I accept or deny the call by pressing numero uno on my phone..

I got a call once that had my own phone number on my caller ID that was calling me. 🤨??

I don't answer the phone if it isn't anyone I don't know..We are going to get rid of the phone....I hardly use it...

My family know my cell number....and some people I know call my Cell..

As is the case with many aspects of daily life, the Brits are much smarter than we are.
