Tell us about your first car and the memories that invokes...we want details.

My first car was a 1966 canary yellow Jaguar XKE convertible, with black leather interior and walnut inlay on the dash. I vaguely remember cruising around New England countryside. I do remember hot rods pulling up beside me at traffic signals. "Wanna drag?" Yeah, right," "Not built for the short run, built for the long haul."
Fell asleep on the hood in the middle of Washington Park one night. Busted. Dad to the rescue. Took the Jag away.. Stuck me with a boring Camaro.

Now I drive a beige Volvo. Ironic.

My husband was in the Army, stationed in Germany, and we lived there for the first year we were married. Our first car was a VW bug convertible, black with red seats. We thought it was super-classy. It had a stick shift, and seat belts hadn't been invented yet. I learned to drive on that car, on the Autobahn no less (no speed limits). It's a wonder we survived that year!

'55 Dodge station wagon with a police interceptor engine. Good thing gas was only 25 cents a gallon. Perfect-storm combination of power and complete uncoolness. The guys loved to look at the engine. Friday nights, I could load up my girlfriends and we would "cruise" the drive-ins all over town scoping out the talent. Everybody would chip in a quarter or two for gas and off we'd go. Of course, we officially were at some youth activity at somebody's church.......I'm sure my parents didn't fall for that ALL the time, though.

1937 Buick 2 door business coupe. It started by depressing the clutch pedal and then pushing the gas pedal all the way to the floor, which activated the starter. In the winter, I had to park on a hill as it only had a 6 volt system and there just wasn’t enough power to turn over starter. It had a stick shift, on the floor, and a puny radio that could pick up a couple stations if the air waves were just right. I had a blast with it, but was always replacing transmissions.

Very first car was a '57 or'58 Ford Station Wagon, robin egg blue. It actually was a family hand me down. Instead of trading in Dad just kept it and let us kids drive it as a field car. I don't know how none of us got killed. It is amazing how much air you can get in the back with broken shocks and leaf springs! It was also used as an UTV on the farm so eventually it ended up without doors or a tailgate.
My first legal car was a '64 Chevy Biscayne. Basic transport.

57 Plymouth, 4 dr., 6 cyl. flat head, three speed, no seat belts and a steel dashboard and no radio so I had portable me and my sweetie used for music.

I had a 38 Ford convertible with a rumble seat. We were out one November evening when it began to rain. My friend and his girl sat in the floor of the rumble seat and pulled the lid shut to escape the cold rain. When I went through a puddle there was a loud scream. The girl had sat on one of the rust holes in the floor and got washed with cold water.

Just after WWII ended, I bought a brand new Dodge ragtop, yellow with a black top.

NOT a good car for Detroit's winters. Kept it for a year then traded it in for a new Chevvie 2 door sedan.

My very first car was a black and white 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air paid for with cash winnings from a GI Poker Game. Drove that car from Tampa, Florida to Mexico City where I planned to attend the University of Mexico with some ex GI's then changed my mind and drove home from Mexico City to San Francisco 1957. Traded that Chevy for a new Renault Dauphine while a college student in San Francisco.

'64 Mercury Comet. Paid $100 for it, in '72. It was buried in the back of a used car lot. The salesman had to jump it. I drove that car hundreds of miles, and it did 90 mph, no problem. Transmission fell out, twice. Second time, in '74, the Mob towed it by me, in Oak Park, as I was in a phone booth, calling my Dad to come give me some help. I sold it to the tow company for $5, as that's all they'd give me for it. I guess they, "made me an offer I couldn't refuse!"

My first car was a 1966 canary yellow Jaguar XKE convertible, with black leather interior and walnut inlay on the dash.

It wasn't my first car, but I had the '68, same canary yellow, but not a rag top
a very sensitive V-12
did well in the straightaway
not so well in the curves

Used, 1972, red, 4 door, Datsun 510.......I drove it for about a year or so and then when I headed back overseas I gifted it to the gal that I was running around with at the time.
