Ten people shot at Mall in South Carolina!

Another shooting! Just like subways, churches and schools, malls aren't safe.

"Ten people sustained gunshot wounds Saturday at a mall in Columbia, South Carolina, according to law enforcement. An additional two people were injured in the “stampede” that followed as panicked shoppers rushed to safety, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said at a press conference. There were no fatalities."

"The oldest shooting victim is 73, Holbrook said, and the youngest is 15.

Two of the gunshot victims are in critical but stable condition, he said, and six are in stable condition. Two people suffered non-gunshot-related injuries in what Holbrook described as a “stampede” after the incident."

Police learned about the shooting after receiving a call about gunfire at the mall near the Gap store, Holbrook said.

“We’re asking that the public stay out of the area,” Holbrook said.

Mall officials issued a statement that was posted by Columbia police on Twitter that said, “Today’s isolated, senseless act of violence is extremely upsetting, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted. We are grateful for the quick response and continued support of our security team and our partners in law enforcement.”

From what I heard about this shooting this was not just someone going into the mall randomly shooting people. These were two people who had something going on against one another and they opened fire against one another and several innocent people were caught in the cross fire. Not to say that is any better than the other shootings because it is not, but it is somewhat different. People still got injured and that is what is sad and horrible about this entire situation. Something more needs to be done with these laws as this is becoming a monthly thing. Way to many innocent people are dying.

In this part of the country, hardly a weekend goes by without a shooting in the larger cities....especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Usually it is a confrontation between members of opposing street gangs. If they would only shoot each other, that would be good....but all too often, bystanders become the victims.

I heard the same thing about why the shooting occurred. But where you been Betty...this is becoming a almost daily thing!

There was another shooting at a party in early this morning in Pittsburg, PA. Two minors were killed and nine others injured. The causes don't matter when it comes to classifying them as terrible mass shootings.

Perhaps I've missed something.....are you aware of any of these shootings involving a member of the NRA???
No, but I am referring to the laws and they are made by the politicians who unfortunately have their pocket filled by the NRA. This is why the laws are not brought up and discussed to make them stronger in our country. It is obvious.

This site isn't to have political discussion so I am going to stop now.

You are correct. I was being way too lenient with the monthly thing and maybe I was referring to these mass type of shootings at malls, schools and such more than just the daily ones that happen on the street corners everyday that certainly do count.

Well I'm not even counting the "street corner" shootings where one or two people get shot. But of course you're right...when considering gun violence in general they certainly count. Sad state of affairs isn't it?!

This is one major reason why I choose not to watch my local news. It got to the point where every night there was story about a shooting in my area. Not particularly in my town, but in the surrounding area. Very sad.

Young people and a gangster mentality. What possibly could go wrong. Probably not even alot if any money but 'respect' which these gangstas demand not earn now a days.

This screams lack of coping skills which is part of many of these shootings and killings. Especially among the younger thugs.

So sad, so disturbing. Back in the 1980's, I was called to jury duty. It was a double murder case. A man in his 20s, just walked into Warinanco Park in Elizabeth, and just shot two strangers and killed them.

Just the worst crime possible.

In his case, this man was extremely violently abused both physically and sexually, from the time he was 2 years old. By the time he became an adult, there was nothing human left.

I came into the case absolutely furious at him. I left just numb and confused. I mean, it was clear to me that if anyone, at any time, had shown him any hope, any encouragement, any caring whatsoever...he very likely would not have done that.

Not saying it justifies what happened. But I remember hearing the circumstances of what he went through and I thought to myself...that I honestly could not say that I would not have been insane and done anything as a result, including what he did.

Just horrifying is all.

Not saying I have answer, but it was horrifying, all the way through.

One doesn't have to be a member of the NRA to take advantage of the lax laws in many places due to their lobbying. And from what i have seen the modern NRA is a very different organization than when it began.

Personally, I think these things are mental health issues and the perpetrators deeply mentally ill people. I have seen endless mass shootings in the news. I can't recall a single one, where the perpetrator was not mentally ill...and almost all of them deeply mentally ill.

I mean, maybe there have been some...but I personally can't recall any.

I am not sure about this particular incident and I believe there was a feud between two individuals that started this. You are correct though with these mass random shootings. Most of them have some sort of mental illness.

to be honest, I did not read anything about this latest one. Just all so upsetting.

I am a violent crime victim myself, so maybe that is part of my reaction. Have been mugged several times. At gunpoint, knife point and once even with an ax. Other stuff also.

I guess sometimes I just can't even read about it. That is a more recent reaction. Before COVID, I definitely would read the articles.

Now, I think it must be because of Ukraine. I do follow those stories. Maybe I have some quota of how much violent news I can process?

Anyway, all so tragic and sad...

If you Really want to know who "runs" this country, spend some time reviewing this site.

https://www.opensecrets.org/elections-overview/top-organizations

The NRA doesn't even make the top 50 donors. And then, look at the "individual" donors list, and you will see who Really rules the nation.
There are 19 Senators that have currently taken over 1 million dollars in donations from the NRA and many more in the thousand dollar range. That seems to be a substantial amount of money still. One of these Senators took over 10 million.

There are definitely other huge contributors as well, but to say the NRA is not a huge factor in political decisions when it comes to the gun control is just plain silly.

ABSOLUTELY perhaps COPING skills and conflict resolution are a subject we need to address....
This can HAPPEN with other weapons as well ...

THIS incident as stated in article and posters......... was a CONFLICT between some people that THEY took into public and put all others at risk.
Many shootings have this type of motivation ..... drive -by shootings with others hit or killed are a prime example of a person just in the vicinity of the intended target ....

Next time you are out ............look around did the young man standing few feet away cut someone off on the drive to mall.... ?
is a disturbed individual who feels slighted ........ now hunting him down and you just standing close???
YOU can not tell .... YOU can not see who is ready to snap.
Reality check.... a fight or conflict starts.... maybe some yelling or pushing etc ...... What to do....
This happened yesterday...... when i was out ....
I walked away from area .............while others especially the young gathered walked toward fight to WATCH....
IF this escalated and someone had a weapon those gathering trying to hear / see conflict just put THEMSELVES in front row of unintended consequences..... most just were splashed i guess as a coffee was thrown but could have worse...

THUG life glamorized in movies and video and social media .....
all with only the "bad guys" hit or hurt ..... in a movie many shots fired but innocent bystanders not hit ....

Honestly there is an alarming amount of people who can NOT distinguish Movies from real life ( mental health issue?)
and think there are no consequences for a shoot out.... IN A MOVIE that is the case .... no one is a bad shot no ricochet etc.
Nope ... the Jason Bourne ... or John Wick just turn and walk away....... these two characters spawned at least 3-4 films in a series ....

Just last month there were multiple shootings in Texas and one notable in Arkansas. Lots of guns and lots of shootings.

"A lot of the kids were helping the other kids,” Morgan said Sunday, adding that he saw people with gunshot wounds to the chest, arms and legs.

The shooting was one of several over the weekend involving multiple victims in Texas. Four people were shot in Austin as the city hosted its annual South by Southwest Festival and four teenagers were shot, one fatally, at a birthday party in Houston.

And in Arkansas, one person was killed and 27 others were wounded after gunfire erupted at a car show on Saturday."

Gun culture!

It was our turn Saturday night when five people were shot, one dead, in a trendy downtown area of the city heavily patrolled by police.

None of us will be safe and the problem will not go away until the shooters develop some sense of value or self-worth for their own lives.
